Xfire is actually really really useful, because if you forget to add a server to your favourites, xfire already saved it.

I don't notice much difference, are you sure you're not over exagerating?

I usually get around 30 ping in DOD:S with or without Xfire on, same with Call of Duty 2, except it's around 60.

Xfire and Windows Live Messenger are what I use. Xfires useful for finding what games your friends are in, and its got that neat little hours counter and stats image ...Windows Live Messenger is what I use for all my non-gaming friends (i.e off chat websites...and other ppl).
Use what you want, but I don't use trillian or any other...cause theres no need to have a program that you very rarely use most of its features for (i.e Trillian has Yahoo Messenger and AIM...both of which I never use).

Xfire can be laggy when you have dialup or 256k DSL...but it very rarely lags me up at all. Normally WMP lags everything up badly....

you can choose what plugins to install with trilian eg. MSN , yahoo , AIM.
I was using Windows live messenger ( MSN 8.0) and  after sometime nobody could see my display picture and I can't send any files . So I use mtrilian now , but I still cannot send files . I think i screwed something up but I dunno why
