3d side scroller like soldat (my project)

I want to make this one game idea I had since soldat is beging to get a little boring for me. First off the graphics are going to be 3d and its going to be a side scrolling shooter like soldat. Im going to start fresh. The game possibly might be free but some where when it gets to good to be free it might have a fee. Never know. First off the most important areas I want to work on will be the single player campaign. Which will include a WWII campaign. I want to put in things like helicopter and other vehicles. Anyone got any ideas of stuff you'd want in the game. Also what kind of vehicles do you guys want and what models. I know an apache helicopter so far. Also I want to compile it all to the pc and then use xna to put it to xbox 360.

Yeah...feel free to prove me wrong but im 99% sure you will not release anything people will play. Soldat is 2d, making it 3d is nothing like soldat.

Making a sidescroller 3d is overkill.  If you want to have 3d graphics, make a 3d game.  Otherwise it's just a waste.

I disagree. With 3D graphics it's possible to have automatic lighting and texturing (no more manually colouring polygons or messing with texture coordinates on terrain to fake a 3D look). In some cases it's easier to make 3D graphics than 2D graphics; animating or generating frames from a 3D model is often easier than drawing every frame for every animation by hand. Super Smash Bros. is a good example of a game with 3D graphics and 2D gameplay.

I have some ideas for map style.....No way in hell i could make them.

Also is it mmo or single plaer.?

what can i do to help...
especially in the physics department.
also using direct3d is much easier than directdraw..
you can do 10000x more in it.
