Computer problems

I installed SP2.



I didn't want to but Premier requires it. It worked fine with SP1. Effects....
1) My raid config got all ****ed up.
It has been solved. I simply stopped using it
2) Slow as ****. Something that should be simple for a 2.2 Ghz processor such as opening the start menu takes 100% of the processor and will even stop my music from plying in order to complete the task. I need this fixed ASAP. I can still run like this but not efficiently.

Possible reasons....
1) Installing windows XP Pro SP2 32x was meant for 32x processors and I should but 64x edition for my computer.
2) A driver was update that should of been. Therefor a conflict arises. The problem is, I don't know which one. I already re-installed the chipset drivers.

Ideas? Suggestions?

Edit: Will stop both music and mouse.
Reason #3) I am using the ATI range pci video card because I dont want to spend $1,000 on 2 crossfire cards yet.

32 bit stuff wouldn't effect you.  None of the "64 bit" processors on the market nowadays are only 64 bit, all of them have 32 bit compatability

Possible reason #4) I didn't update via windows update. (there are reasons) I downloaded the general package.

Wow! My post got pushed to page 2 in 1/2 a day.

Solved it. Video card.

Replaceing my (pci) ATI Rage with a (pci) Nvidia GeForce4 MX 440.

I am now running Vista Beta 2. I wanted to see if it was a driver problem.


So the question is.... Ride the free 64x support of Vista or Switch back to Xp pro?

I'm having this problem with my desktop computer.
specs:

Windows XP Home SP2
1.83Gh AMD Athlon XP 2500+
256MB RAM
ATi RADEON 9700SE
meaningless other junk

it is just so simply slow, and I checked it for viruses and spyware, unistalled all my biggish unused programs, deleted unused files and such, and its still so goddamn slow! the only thing I can do, is re-install Windows...but I have no XP disc, and I don't trust the illegal downloading stuff...

My pro was just after I reformatted. While I know mine was a hardware/software conflict your is just what happens to all winodws systems.

Had dual boot. I didn't notice any probs on the linux side. Then again, I didn't have any hard core apps to test it on.
