More noobs?
« on: November 08, 2006, 09:30:09 am »
Ok, there's these little kids in our schools library.  Who seem to be content with doing absolutely NO work,a nd just palying mario, and other little games.

They recently saw me playing Soldat in there (i do that once ina while).  Lord they're annoying.  They always turn the speakers up really loud, swear, and get the librrarians attn. When she sees what they're playing, they'll get it abnned from the library, ruining it for mde and my friends who play quietly.

Plus, these guys are REALLY BAD.  A surge of Majors may hit Soldat soon, if these guys start to play it at home.

Lawd.
Not tryin' to complain.

Or maybe I am.

The school IT staff did one thing right: they blocked all outgoing connections except for port 80.

I recently deleted Soldat off the school's local network drives.  Everyone who tried it sucked so badly, they gave up on it after five minutes of playing with bots on Airpirates and refused to play it again.

I wish I could find out how to stop the restricted site thing at my school which would be cool. I look forward to a surge of new Majors. :) My stats will flourish.

Try proxy servers.

That won't let you play Soldat though.

everyone at AM plays CS:S and WoW ;D
Your acting like your having a duel and your opponent gets a pistol and you get a spork.
Isn't that pretty much what it is? I dunno wtf a spork is, I suppose it's way weaker than the pistol since you compared that to this.

90% of people who play Soldat restrict themselves to public servers where the skill level is very low anyway. I hardly think a few more "noobs" will make any difference at all. Oh and everyone sucks at first etc.

While new players can be annoying and extremely emo you must understand that its those players who keep the game running. People will register, making donations to MM to keep his interest in keeping this game alive and for other costs he might encounter. You all have to remember you were a newbie to the game at one point and time and acted in atleast one of the ways newbies act now. Even I did some of the noob things when I first played.

I see newer players coming with half of them leaving or rarely playing and I see older players who been around for quite sometime not even play no more or try to hold on to the game still by a thin thread. I believe in order for Soldat to excel and stay around we need to encourage newer players to play to fill in the spaces of older players not playing rarely or leaving all together. However, I feel the versions need to be updated in a timely manner. The current version has been running for quite some time. The update and releases of current versions keeps some players stay playing and interested enough to register knowing that this game will always be in development. It feels like MM is starting or already has have lost as much interest in developing the game further as hes been doing it for quite sometime. I encourage newer players to register Soldat to keep MMs interest in developing the game further. We all know hes busy with his other game in the making as well but IMO his main game at the moment should not get left behind when a much needed new version is in high demand.

So get the noobs more in the game if you can. Theres multiple ways of doing this as each person is different.. treat the newbs the way they treat you.

I <3 noobs.

Agreed, noobs are the backbone of the society of soldat. Vets are leaving soldat at a rate that must be replenished with newer soldatians. If soldat wants to grow (in which, right now, I actually think soldat is bigger than it was a year ago) then we MUST have new soldat players.

We were all noobs once. But my school only has 3 computers from this century (I use em everday, cause i'm in the Lego Robotics team) so I cant even go on the internet, let alone play soldat.

My school is really stupid.
They only block certain sites on port 80, and only for http:// not https://
so I can get to u13.net, which is blocked, by http://u13.net:6080/

but anyway, I just installed soldat to my 6 gig flash drive.

And a swarm of noobs in the public servers only means my noob killing skills will go up.
There are other worlds than these

My school's worse.

They have an automatic website filterer that has blocked sites such as GMail and BBC for porn and Wikipedia for games, whereas porn sites (such as one whose url is incidentally my school's head boy's name) are not blocked.

Easy to get past though. For gmail just add the 's' at the end of 'http' to forward straight to a secure server, which the filter obviously won't ban.

For anything else, just use a proxy server such as www.browseatwork1.com or www.vtunnel.com.

No no no...n00b should never be first.  A n00b is a person with newb skills that thinks he's great, so he complains whenever he dies or misses.

                            / - Normal - Regular - Skilled - Legend
Newbie - Novice -
                            \ - Weapon Switcher - N00b - Hacker

Weapons Switcher: someone who always changes their weapon to the one they just got killed by
N00b - A player that is terrible at Soldat, but thinks they're great.  Whines, complains, and is just annoying in general.
Hacker - Someone who sucks SO much that they use hacks to attempt to be as good (or at least feel as good) as real players.  Actually, this graph might be a better representation:

Only anime shows I've felt any interest in over the years are Pokemon (original TV series) and various hentai.
so clearly jgrp is a goddamn anime connoisseur. his opinion might as well be law here.
