Knife woes.
« on: November 17, 2006, 01:40:57 am »
I have had several unfortunate instances with knives.  I like knives, they allow for stylish kills and ninja-attacks, but I have a strange mix of good and bad luck with them.

Quite often, I go and rush into a fight, fire all my ammo, then in one last push of desperation (or stylin') I go for a knife-finish.  Problem is, thrown guns are remarkably non-lethal.

Other times, I practicly need a "hazardous waste-disposal" container for them.  One of the reasons I like knives is because they are easy to throw away in favor of an additional gun when you want one.  I've killed a good many people doing that; team-mates, enemies, myself.  Poor *******s never stood a chance.  That last one takes talent.  It's pretty hard to do unintentionally.

But it's not all bad.  I do on occasion get lucky, getting in a dodgeball-worthy knifeshot from accross the screen, or nailing the enemy flagger as I pursue him.  I've had some pretty sweet kills.  Then again, that's nothing new.

Overall however, I think I have a higher than average chance of "awesome shots" when I throw my knife, but also a heightened risk of barret-beaning somebody, or killing the FFC.

Maybe it's just my predilection towards attempting "long shots" with my knife, but I guess I should just be more careful where I throw those things.  'Cause the joy of looting that shiny new barret from a fresh corpse is somewhat dulled by decapitating yourself.

They're a blessing and a curse, but it's hats-off to knives! ;)

I'll head-off now. ::)

I like knives too, and I always get the really awsome kills when it doesn't matter. Then, when I'm pursuing the EFC, my Steyr is empty, I whip out my trusty knife, only to miss the throw horribly. I also hate knife "hits" goddam that's annoying :(

I've tried knives....they were my preferred secondary for a while...but then I fell in love with the LAW.
Recently, I tried the knife again....and failed miserably....I understand the fact that you have to charge the knife before throwing it....but sometimes that throw seems so....short! :-\

although....I love the knife....but I think it needs a slight tweaking....cause it just doesn't feel like a knife anymore :(
Just another soul to burn.

I treat it basicly like a grenade.  Same charge-to-fire, similar arc (knife goes farther).  It has a wider kill-profile though.

The knife is fine, though it'd be nice to have some more damage to make it a one-hit kill, especially considering you can lose it in a pit or polygon after the throw. The only nuisance is tossing away your primary since the change animation takes a bit to finish and register the knife being equipped.

Agrees. I play on knife only servers a lot though, you should try that sometimes :P But indeed, it's very annoying when you toss your primary. And, it looks st00pid too.
