I'm thinking the Thinkpad T60 is the way to go.

And i tend to agree with you guys about Dells. My dad's laptop has numerous issues:

-Paint slowly rubs off especially where your hands rest.
-Flimsy connection where the screen is.
-The finger mouse is beginning to suck already
-The battery has lost most of it's life permanently (partially our fault, since it's lithium and we charge it when it's only half full).
-The plug-in cord has to be fiddled with if it's going to function (loose wiring i beleive).

Bricksy sold me on the thinkpad. Although his opinion may be slightly biased since he works with thinkpads on his campus, i don't really care... I trust that he knows his stuff. I'm looking for a well priced Thinkpad that i can get from a trusted retailer now.

and actually after thinking about it, if the laptop is going to be on your lap don't get a compaq because of the intense heat
and compaq has fucked up speakers because when I touch their edges (when typing for example) I always get a friggin shock unless I cover it :(

then maybe you should do some "lappy shoppin"

Rambo, I know of a really bad one, Ibuypowerdotcom, it is really bad and totally unreliable, they **** up everything possible and a bit more.

Why not just strait from the manufacturer, that's always the best when it is not custom built. (most reliable) way to go, *suprised at lack of wikipedia article*

Dude i totally don't want to spend > 2k on a laptop. ;)

EDIT: In my case, buying this laptop from the manufacturer will be a terrible downside.

Having considered the pros and cons I listed above, I chose to buy from an online third-party retailer called Costcentral.com. At time of writing, CostCentral sells the model for $1442, whereas Lenovo sells the model for $1599+tax+shipping.

I was very satisfied with CostCentral's customer service. I talked to their customer representatives three times online and twice through email. Each time the response was quick and helpful. They also have real-time online inventory check (although some buyers question its accuracy). The return policy is very restrictive, but hey, you can't have everything.

I read that people sometimes wait for weeks (even months) for Lenovo to deliver notebooks. With CostCentral, I ordered on a Wednesday afternoon, and the computer arrived on Friday of the same week(!). The fast (and free) shipping was definitely my best experience with them.
