Vista Compatible
« on: November 24, 2006, 04:44:18 am »
I'm a little tired of seeing this.

Are you guys stupid enough to by something that is marked "Vista Compatible" over something with the normal advertising spam on it?

Or should I just give up on the humans and go rogue sifi kill all humans style?

It's weird that they have this sticker on computers that will barely be able to run it, but still people buy it because they're ignorant like someone I know and ask "WHY IS DIS COMPUUTER SO SLOW", even though they have 512 mb RAM, and I told them continuously to upgrade to 1 gig.

Incorrect... I'd say 1 gb is pretty minimum these days unless you only use the computer for office work. Right now I have 553/2048 memory used, don't want to imagine how it would be if the swap file would be used. :-\

Vista's certainly gonna be a mixed bag by the time us windows users 'have' to start using it. My mate beta tests it. Says theres quite a few nice things going on under the hood here and there and it's a vast improvement to previous betas, but the interface and requirements leave a lot to be desired.  Fortunately for gamers, the only thing currently scheduled in the distant future that be needing DX10 is another Halo, so XP still has a lot of life left.

Still, pc's are gonna start being sold packaged with Vista soon, so I guess newbies knowing whats compatible with it helps. I imagine the rest of us are just hanging back and waiting to see just how fucked up this new OS is gonna be...

1GB of RAM is just fine for playing modern games as long as you have an adequate video card.  No matter what your processor speed is, no matter how much RAM you have, if you use integrated video adapters or use a low quality or outdated video card then you will not be able to play many games with a high framerate.

Might as well mention the processor too. Of course you need a good video card and a nice processor to go with the lovely amount of RAM you got.
