...since when did technology become so evolved that you could download graphic cards through an Internet connection?

Uhhh. That's not a link to download a graphics card, ds dude. Downloading a real, tangible object is impossible, as far as I know.  [retard]

Then what are they? They must modify some how.

Quote from: Wikipedia
A device driver, or a software driver is a specific type of computer software, typically developed to allow interaction with hardware devices. This usually constitutes an interface for communicating with the device, through the specific computer bus or communications subsystem that the hardware is connected to, providing commands to and/or receiving data from the device, and on the other end, the requisite interfaces to the operating system and software applications.

Often called simply a driver, it is a specialized hardware dependent computer program, which is also operating system specific, that enables another program, typically an operating system or applications software package, to interact transparently with the given device. It usually provides the requisite interrupt handling required for any necessary asynchronous time-dependent hardware interfacing needs.

Oh right. Here you go instead.

Quote from: Simple English Wikipedia
A driver is a program that lets the operating system communicate with the computer hardware.

Computer parts need a driver because they do not use standard commands. (Ex.: ATI and NVIDIA graphic card do the same jobs, but not the same way).

Many parts of a computer need drivers, but the most popular are:

    * Graphic card
    * Modem
    * Network card
    * Sound card

Some other parts do not need drivers because they use a kind of standard; the operating system recognizes those parts and know how to use those parts.

They are just plugins that you download to make your card run slightly better, except they never work really. Kinda like patches for a game. You can't download the game from the internets, you need the CD, but you can download patches to make it better.
