This brings me to another point: is it really worth our time to code a system which enforces those kinds of restrictions?  I vote no ;)

Agreed. Just report to moderator to lock your topics, they usually get on it pretty quickly anyway.

Well..This can be made as an option for people with a certain amount of posts (or rank), but I don't see a real need for this.  There would be way too many locked topics then.  :-\

If topics were auto pruned every 20 or 30 days, that's a whole different story.

Spasm, your first suggestion about it being available to people with a certain posts, rank, or karma would require coding to enforce that.

I simply believe that if it ain't broke we shouldn't go and spend the time implementing something new that may bring new problems with it.

Yea..unless you were to create special membergroups for it..
(Other than "Regular Members")
But as you said, there's no point getting involved..

ah, I completely forgot how easily it could be done by modifying the postcount-controlled usergroups.

Still, I don't think this is worth doing, but thanks for the input Spasm.

Communism isn't even a bad thing, you're thinking of a dictatorship.  Nazism isn't even a form of government either.

But yes Bricks, I've changed my mind on this one.  If it aint broke, don't fix it.

Flab does not run a facist government here, he does not rule by fear. This is also not communist, we are not being given or taken away from (exept certain people's dignity) this is also not a democracy, because we don't vote (we aren't liberals because the polls don't work :D) It is safe to consider Flab a monarch, but only on the technical side of the argument, as for the rules, we are in a federation.

oh, and locking our topics would be nice,

I see flabs point. Locking your own topics can be a great tool, but there would be too many people that would be immature with it. Look at the karma system, people get smited for their musical taste... not really the system that was in mind when it was put into place.

I agree with FliesLikeABrick, you can't ever let a forum with this amount of users lock their topics at will and not see extra problems, courtesy of the added feature.
In the last two decades, political and civil rights have improved substantially throughout the world: since 1980, 81 countries have taken significant steps in democratization, with 33 military regimes replaced by civilian governments. But of these fledgling democracies, only 47 are considered full democracies today.
