The forums will be down for a few hours this coming monday, December 11th. I will be adding 3 new hard drives to the server and then copying over about 100GB of data before I can bring the forums back online.

I apologize for the inconvenience. The new hard drives as well as their use (in a RAID5) will result in the forums and everything else on the server running significantly faster.

I will hopefully have some more information about the exact time as the day approaches.

Do you trust raid 5? I have a board that supported it when it first came out and it sounded too good to be true. So I never used it.

99% chance that board was a softraid board (meaning that it required windows drivers to work) which means that ultimately you were relying on windows.

So no, I don't trust it in that situation.

On this server it'll be running linux softraid, something I've been using for about 2 years in other servers without any problem, ever. So yes, I trust it
