ctf_Maya 3 - color update
« on: December 10, 2006, 06:55:59 pm »
Sweet new Soldat-era. Precalced light effects and alpha transparency everywhere. But where have all those maps from the pre-Polyworks-supports-it-all era gone?

Nothing against Polyworks, its a great tool, tho I dont like its handling and I do have some problems with realizing good looking alpha transparency stuff. But thats not the main point. I think, maps in oldskool style fit Soldat way better. And none of all these next-gen maps has yet managed to make use of all the advanced gfx techniques while preserving the classic Soldat style. (Now that'd be some challenge for Avarax ;) )

However, long message, short point: Except for htf_Freefloat I havent been mapping for ages. And it will stay like that in the future. But while betatesting I simply was overhelmed by a need for mapping something. So I decided to continue the Maya series. The style is a bit different, it looks more realistic. It is again mirrored, but due to different elements on both sides not "equal" in looks. The setting is the same as used by Maya1 and 2.

EDIT: Now waypointed by Keron Cyst, Screenshot updated

Not sure what to say about this...Nice layout, good colours on the middle platforms, but I detest the grey border, it's not really maya style :-\
Nice to see you posting again :)

I love all of it, except for the gray border.

I agree, most polyworks maps are just eye candy, and don't have the original soldat feel that I love.

EDIT: I have just played the map and love all of its looks including the gray border, so please just disregard what I said first

... wow.

If this does not get into v1.3.2 I don't know what will. Waypointing Done; PMed. I thought you were gonna do something more creative with the Stonehenge-like rocks at the top (like make them OPC and let bullets pass), but it seems otherwise :P

it's pretty and looks greatly playable. but the atmosphere is so cold that i wouldnt want to play it, i like warm maps. maya1 and 2 are warm since they have brown colours at the borders, but those solid stone stuff at the border is total crap =/

apart from that, great map, could use some texture stretching in some places, which wouldnt make it non-default looking... a total number of about 10 additional lianas here and there (specially at the roof) would fit perfectly

Looks great, you're still one of the best mappers around. We should definitely test this out for 1.3.2.

What I don't like is the overstretched texture around the bridges and the bumpy surfaces in the tunnel which are very annoying. It also looks pretty sprayable overall, though the curves and obstacles help.

I love this ! The GaMePlAy is reaaaally good, i hope this map will be in 1.3.2, but i dont like colours :). I want dark+light green polygons ( exception bridges) and more jungle scenery.

I love this:

It isnt hard to create it, but these holes are really good for Alt-way tactic
btw: bridges are the best things of the whole map

Sry for my hardcore critic, you are still Pornstar in mapmaker's wet dream, but change colours and this will be best of the old school soldat style maps

Map updated, I added more Maya-Esque colors, but still preserved a more "grown-up" look of the map. Also, there are some more scens, and "debumped" the lower middle part a bit.
