Old 2d Dogfight Game
« on: December 21, 2006, 09:05:57 pm »
MM's new project 'Crimson Glory' has reminded me (and persuaded me to sign up to the forums) of an old game called Altitude. It was a Multi-player 2d dogfight game, and i wanted to see if anyone here ever played it. It was in a beta stage but the sight went down and everyone (the few that new about it) stopped playing. :'( It was a very fun game, and if anyone is curious i still have the install (not sure if it works). ??? It reminded me a lot of Soldat, Ill try to find a screenshot somewhere.

Later,

heh, i didn't realize how old this game was. I did dig something up though, if you go to youtube.com and search "Altitude" you'll find some movies by alexzhu1 (recorded games) heres a link http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=alexzhu1

Hmm, it looks kinda similar numgun, but thats not it. It was all English. You'll see in those videos ( i haven't watched any yet, going to right now.)

I met Alex at a summer camp this summer. He thinks I'm a total ass ;D. That video is totally the right thing. I was going to work on the game but, the lacking to show any working version of the game (or any videos) discouraged me enough to stop trying to help. Of course him acting like a total d*ck had nothing to do with my decision  >:(.
The forums for it was something like: proboards104/altitudeproto.com . Maybe that small elitest group has given up  :(.

Uh, they had a working verison I believe but something went wrong. Then they kept trying to get it up but, since there are no servers to play it on... Do you know the forum address?

This isn't quite the game you're thinking of, but have you played Red Baron 3D? It's the best WWI flight sim I know (although there aren't alot) and the easy skin customising was great... :D

That does look like lots of fun. A shame it was canceled or whatever. Here's hoping the delays with Crimson Glory don't result in a similar fate. :) Seeing this Altitude game video makes me question if it or Crimson Glory can really offer much depth though beyond changes in velocity. I guess that's just part of the limitations of making a dogfighting game I suppose.

Considering Crimson Glory is going to be 3D, Id say it would do a lot better than altitude did. And although altitude didn't have that much you could do in it, it soaked up hours of my time. (of course, this was sans Soldat :) ) And has anyone ever played Microsoft's Combat Flight Simulator(any of them)? I know Microsoft is renowned for their flight games (personally i thought flight sim 04 sucked though)

Wow, that game actually looks like a lot of fun.  Although, it also looks exactly like Wings.

Yea, theres Red Baron in DOS, Red Baron 2 and then Red Baron 3D, all great flight sims; although IL2 Sturmovik makes it them obsolete (unless you really want to keep with WWI).

I was playing DOS Red Baron when I heard about 9/11.

No!!

The original website was [ www.gamedit.com/~lampster ], but it seems to have died :( And I can't find it anywhere else... it's called Altitude.

Is there any way to contact the creator of the game? It looks like heaps of fun.

EDIT: one of the Youtube vidoes was uploaded recently, I'm contacting the creator now for a link request :D
