How to: make a successful good clan
« on: December 24, 2006, 08:35:46 am »
Ok, well i find it quite amusing people making their own clan which lasts for a month maximum, has only played 2 or 3 cws and generally sucks.

To be blunt, and straight to the point, if you want a successful clan, mIRC is vital. People try to use MSN or xfire or other IM programs as communication for clan members aswell as other clans, but these programs downright suck. Incase you don't know what mIRC is, it's internet relay chat, which thousands of soldat players use to keep in contact with the real soldat community. Not only that but it has hundreds of channels for the purpose of clans. Thanks to this wonderfull program, you can find a clan war in less then a minute, and play vs the best clans in soldat.

How do you use this mIRC you ask? Well, go to http://www.mirc.com/ and download it, once you have installed it and opened it up, a notice will pop up saying some crap and have the options of 'Register online now' or 'continue' ~ Yes you can pay to register, put you can also keep using the program once the 30 trial days are over, so in other words, it's basically free. Anyway, you need to fill out your details, nickname email addy etc.. And connect to the server Quakenet (doesn't matter which quakenet server, aslong as it is, quakenet), this is the server that the soldat community is on. Once you have connected try doing '/join #Apocalypse', '/join #soldat.forums' (these are only example channels but do actually exist as you'll see).. Anyway, thats bascially it! mIRC is a tricky program to use at first, but once you get the basics it's easy as pie!

So, you want to start your own clan, you've installed IRC, what next? well, think of your clans name, and a tag for it. Try to be original, but not stupid (especially when it comes to the tag, don't over do it trying to look cool with). Right, so for example say your clan name is 'The pwners of soldat' and the tag is 'TPS - nick', you need to create a mIRC channel, this is simpler then it sounds, you just type '/join #soldat.tps', and if this channel is empty then there you are! It's now yours! However if you want it to be permenent, then you need to get some idler friends to stay in your channel for a couple of hours, then you can request L bot.

REMEMBER, go to http://www.quakenet.org/ and read up more. Here you can find out how to auth yourself, witch is VITAL, and also then allows you to join the most popular channel in the soldat community, #soldat.gather ~ here you can play organised games with pros and average players alike.

IRC VERY USEFULL TIP: hit alt+o ~ connect - perform ~ Enable perform on connect, and under 'Perform commands:' 1st, put your auth so when you connect you automatically auth yourself, '/MSG Q@CServe.quakenet.org AUTH authnamehere passwordhere' (look at quakenet site to find out how to start your auth). Then under that you can put '/join #yourclan' '/join #soldat.gather' etc.. This saves you the hassle of manually joining the channels you wnat everytime you connect to irc, now it will do it automatically!

You might be thinking now, hmm, i thought this was a guide to make a clan, not all this mIRC bollox. Well, being straight the point again, IRC is what makes clans successful, without it your clan will no doubt fail, with no rewards or achievements.
So please, if you are determind to make a good clan, you NEED irc, i can't state this enough!

So you've got your channel and stuff set up, now you need members. Well as i've said before, IRC is where the real soldat community is, you can find the best players in soldat here ~ but that doesn't mean they'll want to join your clan! But even so, there are hundreds of decent players, some advertise themselfs when they're clanless, some don't.. So lets just say you're playing a gather (#soldat.gather) and you see a decent guy and are impressed, ask him on irc after the match if he's intrested. Ask anyone you see and recognise, even if they have a clan already they might be tempted by your offer! ~ Remember, Rome wasen't built in a day, to get a full and decent rooster could take days or weeks. Also you don't need loads of members, 6-8 players is enough! Any more and your teamwork will be poor as your playing with different guys each time.

Once you have members, and you have 3 online, hey! Play a cw! An easy way to do this is to join #soldat.match where people often seek cws, or try the command '/amsg blabla clan is searching for a cw! PM me or /join #yourchannelhere'. '/amsg' Is a command that sends a msg to every channel that you are in. Remember, be nice, if you've seen a clan and respect it, idle in their channel, aswell as channels that benefit the soldat community, such as #soldat.gather and #soldat.news etc.

So you've searched a cw, hopefulyl someone has sent you a msg asking for one, ask them for server info (Do NOT try and play a cw on your own selfhosted one from 'Start Game' on soldat, lots of lag and hits - not nice). So you get your clan to join the server, and this is how you play a cw. 10mins every round, 1st map is ctf_Laos, winners of that round choose their map. If that map is tied then the clan that didn't choose the 2nd map can choose the 3rd. If you want a more detailed guide, see here ~ http://www.tnl.org.uk/rules.php ! (TNL is a league which also hosts other soldat events, SWC, SEC, etc.. Sign up your clan next sign ups!)

Ok, so you've played your 1st clan war! CONGRATZ! If you were unlucky enough to be asked for a cw by an Asylum member, or one of mine don't cry that you lost 10-0 on both maps!  :P Decent clans play an average of 3 cws a day, but clans have been known to play more then 10 in one day! The more you play, the better your teamwork will be. PLAY MORE AND GET GOOD.

Don't let arguments errupt over silly things, and try not to kill your clan for pointless reasons. Try to be a nice leader that respects your members and other clans, don't make stupid petty little rules for your members to follow, be cool and try to make your clan strong and respected!

Once again ~ IRC IS THE KEY TO A SUCCESSFUL AND GOOD CLAN, WITHOUT IT YOUR CLAN WILL EVENTUALLY DIE, AND HAVE A CRAPPY LITTLE LIFE!

I think that's all, but pleaaaaseee god! Stop trying to make a clan using msn and getting random players of public servers.

IRC is the key to becomming a better player, and to create decent clans.

Merry christmas.
ps/ outcast sucks
But not as much as alex does ;>

Yes, im a noob  ;D, i've only played soldat for a couple of years, been in the top soldat clans, played hundreds of clan wars, probably over a thousand actually. I'm known in the REAL soldat community.

Look, you don't even know me ~ that just sums it up how you aren't even close to knowing what the real community is like. Sorry for sounding massively big-headed, but that's the truth. Sure every country has their own small community, but the whole REAL soldat community is on irc.

Sorry to burst your bubble mate but you're nothing.

Maybe not everybody cares about your "REAL soldat community". I certainly don't. I could just as reasonably say that it's nothing to me, and sound just as pathetic. And by the way, it's called IRC, not mIRC, and mIRC is one of many programs you can use to connect to it. :P

wat a load of bs frm some noob. In australia, clans use msn to communicate and find wars (not with some random nub clan) with the top clans in australia cuz most top clans have their own clan section in aussoldat and are together with the rest of the forums as one big happy family

First off, he's no noob, even though he has some noobish tendencies here or there.

Second off, while you can use msn to lead a clan and communicate and find clanwars, it's all a lot more efficient and faster by IRC. MSN works for isolated communities with small number of clans that know each other. But when you have hundreds  of clans, try keeping all the leaders on msn etc. Isn't it better for everyone to be on IRC, where you just auto message all the channels your on that you're looking for a clanwar, and you get it within a very short time span....without having to click 30 different people asking each on individually for a clanwar on msn?
Same with members, you're all in the same channel, communication is better.
The north american community used to rely on MSN only, but now they've seen that IRC with it's hundreds of clans is a lot better, faster and efficient way to find clanwars, even though they still use MSN to communicate because they're daft...even though most better NA clans have their own irc channels now and are using the advantages of  having IRC. Aussies are pretty much isolated because well, they're ****ing isolated due to ping differences. As for forums, you don't need forums if you have IRC, atleast that's how I see it...though the NA community are all packet up in the same forums too which is impossible for the euro community, which is way too big and has way too many languages for living in harmony in 1 forum :>
You can go ahead and call me noob too but that won't make the truth any different ;)

P.S. - Stickied.
P.P.S. -  the red guy, if you disagree, tell us why. You can't expect anyone to take your opinion seriously if you just disagree without a sensible arguement.

Why are you posting then? Check the topic title.
Alexoner, is right, You can not make a succesful clan without using IRC.

And Dersertoorz or so, which are the best australian clans? BaM? paD?  F://?
They would lose to any European or NA decent clan.

The guide mainly goes for "Mainland" Soldaters, for players from Europe/America. Don't diss alex just because you don't know him - it's pretty rare that a competitive Soldat player comes to the bowels of this place and tries to help the broad public, and you guys are the exact reason why.

And like it or not, the best players really do use IRC, because the community has grown so huge that you can't improve after a certain level ( a certain bad level ) of skill without playing clanwars daily.

You may disagree, but if you're going to boast, back your words up in a clan war. You know where to find us.

desertorz you obviously have not been on irc and seen the vast amount of people that play.

have you ever been in #soldat.gather and seen the level of skill in there ? i doubt it.

I also doubt that youve been in any leagues, TNL, SCTFL.

Playing publics all day will not make you good, neither will playing clans that use maxrespawn 10 and maxnades 6.

play proper rules, with proper clan players on irc and you will see for yourself.

ps alex is gay

Everyone knows you're a newbie, Outcast. :)

I take it you're not familiar with the soldatwiki, alexoner, cause you simply could link people to the irc-tutorial on the soldatwiki ( http://wiki.soldat.nl/IRC_tutorial ). I have to say I miss terms as 'mentality', 'teamspirit', 'emotional intelligence' and 'alcohol' though, it's like you purely base yourself on the soldatskills of a player, nevertheless who he might be. A lot of 'good/skilled' clanplayers are almost unable to communicate with, cause they have hardly no english skills, they lack in intelligence, they're only interested to play, play and play. Not really the ideal people to create a good atmosphere in a clan. So I think you have to find the right subtle balance between the different players in a clan, so people want to join the clan, and more important, want to stay in the clan. To know whether a player fits in your clan or not, it's handy to make use of a trial period for new players.

Anyway, my advice is simple, get to a finnish server and recruit any player with a low ping.

Thats a really good point Seb, but actually most of the top players can speak english just fine, but you are right there are alot of good players and their English is poor to say the least! I guess i'm just lucky to be in the motherland itself otherwise i guess i would be one of them!!

Also, to the Australian dude. On irc you can find the whole Polish community, the whole czech community, the whole Austrian, English, Portugesse, Slovakian, German, NA, i think actually the only national community you can't find are the ones with no soldat players what-so-ever and the Australian one!

Edit: ah yea wiki! I am familiar, even on the players list there, but i completely forgot there was an IRC tutorial, i remember seeing one before and swear it was on these forums, but after various searches and nothing i decided to attempt by own brief one!

The R/S community that revolves around the DS Forums is clearly superior to whatever 'REAL' community you're talking about. (http://dssoldatclan.proboards61.com/)

How is it clearly superior? In what way? I look the forums and nothing clearly superior is presented to me. Maybe you think because you play R/S you're better, cooler, whatever. I've played with DS members and if they played normal or atleast normal realistic they'd get their asses kicked as soon as they'd find a worthy opponent. Maybe you think all normal mode guys are idiots and morons and fail at english and a good sense of humour(there's a lot of them though that's for sure), that you're better in that kind of way...You'd be wrong if you thought that. They're just scattered all around, the nice people.

Lets kinda keep this on what you're all 'really' saying here.

Theres a very, very large majority of clans to be found on IRC. This is where you will find the most clans, primarily based on normal mode, sctfl and tnl players, and based around Europe and America, where the majority of Soldat players are. It's a very efficient real time means for communication, especially when organising a clan war.

Other collections of relatively smaller national or specialised clans choose to revolve around a community through a central forum (whether based on game mode or nationality) and instant messaging programmes, all neatly connected together through their community forum and a matrix of MSN-styled messengers, clan leaders probably knowing when other clan leaders are online easily from their desktop.

Neither is strictly superior to the other in any forms of practicality. The Aussie community and the R/S community is smaller and more collected together, and works ideally with just a forum and their collection of people connected to each other through MSN and their forums. A community as large and wide spread as the normal mode sctfl and tnl gather-playing clanners though 'requires' the practical benefits of IRC.

Otherwise, good guide there luv.
MM; seriously Chakra, stop the fisting

And with that said, I'm going to lock the thread as everything I feel a clanleader needs to know is written here.
