Sweet new innovation
« on: December 24, 2006, 06:51:44 pm »
Was playing on a map called inf_breakin and was talking with it's maker.
Theres 2 125 mm Cannon sceneries on both bases/sides of the map. Theres a little yellow poly on top of the cannons. Alteisen (Numgun) told be that if I stood in those poly's and threw a nade it would be launched high speed like an artillery. I Had to try it it sounded too good to be true but it wasnt...
I threw the nade and the nade flew like, across over half the map, launched like a barret shot.
THANK YOU Numgun for revealing this. Never seen this before. A glitch that we would do well to keep. I like it. I'll leave it to him to reveal the secret if he wants to (not really a secret, it's on soldat wiki). But I tell you, this is just as good as in the mecha soldat mod where you have the launch pads on the ships...

Uhh. Yeah. The reason noone's ever tried to put this into any map is because you can't aim the shot. And if someone was serious enough to want this, you can just mod a stationary gun to do the exact same thing. But thanks for posting for awareness.

It's not a secret at all, and numgun didn't invent it, although he is probably the only one who uses it in mapping nowadays. The grenade-launching polygon technique's been used quite a few times on some of Chakapoko maker's maps as well as other mappers' (make a fat Only-Bullets-Collide polygon, stand in it, and throw a grenade. Tuck a scenery in to conceal the polygon so it looks professional, and you've got yourself an artillery cannon).

It's sweet, but not new.  It's called the "Artillery" polybug; here is a list of known polybugs.

I know its not his invention and I know it's not new. It's just nice to see something resurrected like this. Cool, ERA 5.1 eh?
And about the aiming: I dont care, just nade spray with cannon lol.
And at least it's not as "buggy" as the poly jump bug
