Link up to the Soldat Wiki

A few people I've noticed complained in various wiki threads about its lack of attention. Putting it in the News box (the thing where text refreshes with something different every click) is too sporadic, and not reliable to distribute it.

I think a link to "Wiki" would help generate traffic and attention, in the same style just underneath the banner as it is with "Map," etc.

Well, I doubt it if Flieslikeabrick (as admin of the forums) and/or Ender (as admin of the wiki) would be that keen on cooperating on the same project though. But maybe when there's a portal page to this forums some day, it could be easier that way to put links to other websites, other projects, etc...related to soldat, to get those more popular.

Denacke is head admin of the wiki and since he's also a betatester i think flies won't mind working together with him.

Hmm, if it's just an external link to the wiki, this might be a good idea. Would be a bit more eye-catching as the ad in the news banner.

Why not an 88 by 31 button to the wiki somewhere on the header of the forums (somewhere around the navigation) or just right above the footer?
(I have wondered for a long time why these forums don't have some kind of box right above the footer for links to other soldat sites.)

I've always supported the wiki and it has been in the news box for at least 4 months.

But that's exactly the problem I'd even addressed that in the threadstarter. I mean, messages like "error: not enough waffles" and the 1972 crack commando thing are hilarious and I don't think they should be taken down, but because of them (and other various messages as well), I myself have actually not seen the wiki message in weeks.

Putting a "Wiki" link which is as steady as the world "Map" right underneath the banner with "Active Topics," etc. would help direct bored and/or curious members there more steadily and reliably. It's not like it's going to damage page-loading by more than 0.001 sec.

Btw a little offtopic: if you can set the frequency on news items in the news thingy, maybe make the jokes appear only very seldomly, they would be more funny because more unique, like 'bonus things' to see now and then. As it is now you see the jokes within your first 10 pageviews and after that the novelty value is gone.

Nah, don't think you can set a frequency....you 'can' add multiple versions of them though so theres a higher chance of them appearing though....kinda the same thing I suppose.

Otherwise, i've been badgering Bricks and E.H for a portal to the forums (just like the old DNA days) for a while now. Give it a few months and we could see something interesting that could also provide a bit of advertising to Soldat's many sites worthy of notice.

I'm not trying to make fun of FLAB at all here but I don't see how it could possibly be so difficult and/or time-consuming if the Map was able to be put on there when it, too, isn't part of the official SMF board layout.

I have not seen the wiki message in the news box since October, just to let you know...

I've seen him once or twice, basically he's got about two tons of work and therefore can only work on anything of his own on the weekends.

So does that mean Elephant Hunter has more admin priviledges than you? if so could he transfer priviledges across to your account, so in the future we don't need to wait indefinatly on him.

Or is it he knows more about coding SMF Forums?

--BTW he posted in the ajax admin thread a few days ago..
