What would you do with an open source Soldat?

I'd create a Soldat similar game regarding all the physics, but with mages and knights instead of modern guns. It would have many MMORPG elements like experience that increase the power of your spells or strikes slightly with each kill or level... still it'd be a multiplayer arcade game :) Jet would be replaced by "Levitation energy" and all gosteks would have angelwings ;D I thought 3 abilities for each of about 10 classes, one primary ability, one secondary, one passive (like an aura) and a 4th "ultimate" ability which is learned with the highest level :D
classes would be like:

Class
-Primary Ability
-Secondary Ability
-Passive Ability
-Ultimate Ability

Warrior wielding either Sword & Shield or a 2-handed long ranging axe
-Usual Strike
-Throw Weapon (with a boomerang effect)
-Block attacks with shield by a certain chance / gain some charge speed while striking with axe
-Invulnarabelity for a period of time

----

Bowman equipped with a light and fast Bow or a strong and slow Crossbow
-Shoot Arrow / Bolt
-Multishot
-Adds a poison effect too arrows that deals damage over time and slows attack speed of enemys
-Chasing Shots - the next 3 Arrows / Bolts are homing missile-like

----

Hunter Equipped with a Light bow and a dagger
-Shoot Arrow
-Stab with dagger
-Extra Movementspeed
-Let the Hound loose. Summons a furious hound to assist you for a couple of seconds

Fire Mage
-Fire Ball - has a slight burn effect which causes damage over time aswell, mediocre fire speed
-Flamewave - creates an explosion at the clicked spot
-Warmth Aura - restores health to you and your allies slowly
-Inferno - increases damage and fire speed of the Fireball and makes them explode on contact. Also increases Flamewave radius

Frost Mage
-Iceshards - Fast fired Ice crystals that do low damage but slow the enemy
-Frostnova - freezes players in a certain radius around the player for some seconds
-Mirrorskin - has a chance to reflect spells
-Teleport - fully restores health & levitation energy and teleport you in the chosen direction about 1 screen far, if their is no polygon in the way

Nullifier Mage
-Cryptic Bolt - Slow firing dark ball that does medium damaga and silences spellcasters for 0,5 seconds
-Magic Barrier - renders the mage in a magical barrier that blocks spells for 2 seconds
-Dirty Little Helpers - the nullifier mage has some little demons hopping around him that sometimes like to throw a flamebolt at an enemy
-Black Hole - creates a sinister spot at the crosshair that magnetticaly pulls players into it and deals damage to them for a couple of seconds

Vampire euqipped with a whip
-Swing whip - long ranged melee-attack with the whip that disarms weapon wielders for 0,2 seconds
-Bat-form - Transforms into a bat increasing levitation energy-regeneration and decreasing size for better evasion
-Suck Blood - 33% of the damage the Vampire deals is converted into health
-Daywalker - 100% of the damage the Vampire deals is converted into health for a couple of seconds, movement speed is increased and the Vampire has a chance to evade projectiles and spells

Ninja Equipped with a Katana & Ninja Stars or a Nun-Cha-Ku & Ninja Stars
-strike with Katana (strong) / strike with Nun-Cha-Ku (long range)
-throw a couple of ninja stars
-slight invisibility
-Duplicate - creates a bot that is a copy of you for a couple of seconds

If i had the skill and the time and the means to change soldat, i would add hairstyles/accesories for registered and a few for nonregistered including (but not limited to...)
clown afro (rainbow colored stripes)
Slim Jim dude hair (sticks strait up and tall)
Dolla'sign chain
large boots
boot colors
tee shirts
pirate shirt (signfield ;))
Bald/shaved hair
Top hat
Ninja costume (definantly registered)

Given that I actually knew how to code delphi, I'd start a project redesigning the PMS map format.

Oh, and I'd demand that MM give me the lines of code that would put roller skates back in.

thats a nice idea, I'd probably create a medieval rpg game too, only one thing, the bowmen should have flaming arrows (rambo lala)

I would make voice chat enabled for regged users (because anyone who has a credit card and 9 bucks is probably over 9 years old)

I'd stare at the code for 12 hours and wonder what the hell I was looking at.

If, hypothetically, I obtained knowledge of Delphi overnight, however, I would make a single player campaign with leveling up. Leveling up would be like, you start with a one shot ruger that takes 4 seconds to reload. From there you could pick which gun you want to upgrade and customize it. You could also pay extra for secondary weapons like the chainsaw and whatnot.

Man that'd be sick...

Well, with that in mind, I can't wait for Crimson Glory. A change of pace will be nice indeed.

I'd make:
Single player mode, smarter AI....and a proper working Mp3 player ;)...oh, and fix the farking hit-reg system...and remove lag out of the game (:P)
And a million other things I really can't think of now.

I'd add more movement options, like the ability to kick off every wall, not just slopes. I'd also add big, fucking explosive guns, because they are pretty. And big. And explosive. Stuff.

I'd quit Soldat. Soldat would never be the same once you add all this other crap in, like the World of Warcraft style junk mentioned in the OP.

well, this wouldnt change soldat itself, it would be like all those nifty mods for halflife (i.e. counterstrike, team fortress, deathmatch classic, ping pong and so on) and any modification would create a game for itself. so you cant join a "ULTRA RPG MOD" server with usual Soldat like the weapons modifications in usual Soldat allow

Id add pilotable mechas. and GUNDAMS!!!1 AND VEHICLEZ!!!! AND MORE WM OPTIONS!!!
AND A BACKPACK GOSTEK (its a must.) AND MORE ADVANCED STUFF INTO THE MAPMAKER!!! (elevators, crushers, anim scenery) A SCOPE FOR STEYR! YEA!

and many more things I still have in my mind.

Assuming I had super-programming powers:

Recode it to C/C++ and OpenGL
Native Linux Version
More moves would be cool, like wall-kick-jumps
Maybe some other weapons (or not)
More modes (I'd like to see a night-mode, would be fun for Stealthy games)
More accessories (hairs and hats mainly)
Faster network code? :D
Then try and port it to the DS.  ::)

I would add an auto update system, because you guys would need to patch this shit every ten seconds

No offence, but i think this leveling and rpg crap for online would totally suck, soldat is a revolutionary shooter, don't turn it into Gunz

With that being said, having a single player mode would be ok for all the dialuppers but real men shoot other real men

I would make the bots capable of running backwards, because i have never seen boogieman run backwards in my life exept for about a half a second when runnign away from a grenade.

AI is good but it only wants to kill people, as opposed to capturing flags. Tthey jus capture flags as a side objective. They really just stop to make sure every opponent is dead, which makes them decent DM players, but not CTF players. Although most of the time i find myself disagreeing with you,  this time I dont. It would be annoying because some people like to just download soldat and get in the game, but everyone else would kick their ass because everything about them is better because they felt like beating the singleplayer campaign. Pretty gay if you ask me.


I already like soldat the way it is, I wouldn't change it except other than the minor details mentioned above. But I would make certain body part images collide with each other, so that the ragdolls can look more realistic, instead of breaking all their bones as soon as they die.

If you like leveling and sutff try Gunster its a bit like that.

Yeah more movement capabilities maybe some new weapons and Coptors!!!
