Swearing Filter (like on selfkill, tba,...)
« on: December 31, 2006, 10:01:28 pm »
the swearing filter on servers like selfkill or the tba public clan server is actually a good idea, but killing me and kicking and banning me for saying noob... thats crap. what do you think? the word noob is not a really very bad word
Hmm, any idea what to write here?

I think someone should be applauded for making an effort to prevent people from using the word "noob". Get over it.

I agree soldat is a violent we should be allowed to curse others, but if you really don't like the swear filters do what I do, just don't join them

i like to say "nub" to people that i know or that play very good... i got banned several times for that ^_^
still, i think the filter should remain, "noob!"-ers are really annoying... other words like "f u c k" and "idiot" should be taken out though

mhh, i dont think the swearings, even when they harm and everybody use them day for day, should be accepted.
I dont like swaering even if i say just for fun to my sister "Hey old horse" or "Hey chubby sis" or to my friends "hey nerds" or something, i love them so i shouldn't swaer to them. no matter what i say.
its a kind of.... hm.... decent education to forgo completely of swearing, thats at least me litte opinion and thats why i won change it on my servers ;)

Noob is most common name in soldat, everyone are saying it.
If start banning players from all servers with one word - there won't be any soldat players left.

Well, you know, it'd be just freaking great if the pompous Soldat players, who think they the best players in the fucking world would just shut up and actually play, instead of saying "noob [insert other insult here]" after every kill.

My favourite solution is the forums.soldat.pl server's script. Someone says 'noob' and a server message says '[player name] is a noob, name calling is for loosers' You also get some other variants after saying 'nub' or 'nab' etc.

Thats my little script...i don't always have arsse loaded up to it, but I used it for Leo's too when I was more active there. Everyone was always insulting one another, so I figured i'd try shut people up. Don't know much about scripting myself, would like to know if theres a way of detecting words 'within' a sentence that can trigger a response, rather than 'if $message' etc..
MM; seriously Chakra, stop the fisting

I think I'm AGAIN you, but FOR the anti-whiners script. That makes playing soldat more enjoyable, without kids crying out loud at you when you kill them.

....I thought u didn't use the vocabulary as you did when I played with you last time. Too bad, some people doesn't change.. even though this was like a year ago.

yes, there is,
but in dedicated server scripts not in arsse...

Well Arsse can pick up specific strings in a message, wildcards (* and ?) work in scripts. Basicly * replaces  everything.

so you guys want:

if $MESSAGE = *noob* will pick up noob in any sentence structure

In other words: by playing a game, which simulates killing, you are already doing something obscene, so it doesn't make any sense to filter words, which are considered to be obscene.

Stop debating what the server decides to do. I agree, it's a game for a mature audience, a game about war, and as such swearing is pretty commonplace and not all that bad.

The reality of it is though that there ARE young players, even if there probably shouldn't be, and they play on those servers, If the guy running the server thinks that there shouldn't be swearing, he has the power to change things so there won't be. The only thing you can really do is go to HIM about it, or just go to a different server.

But considering it was put there in the first place, I doubt the person running the server will remove it unless a substantial amount of people cry out against it.

Stop debating about whether we should debate or not. I agree that people should have their own opinion. But still that's not a reason why one shouldn't discuss whether this opinion makes sense or not.

And why is everyone always so eager about saving the youth from obscenity? They already know all those words and use them. When they become more mature they will act more like it (most of them at least), but you will not be able to prevent them from swearing till that day.

Yes it's the admin's choice and if a server is too fascist for me I just leave. But still I have the right to talk about it on a forum (limited by the admins of course). And you have the right to ignore such discussions or to tell us that we should stop discussing... The circle is closed =)

And your argument sounds like:
50% of my life time I spend with being polite to others, so why shouldn't I be polite to people in a multi player 3d shooter game, where I permanently shoot them in their face.

You just need to ignore them. I must admit that one has to have a mature personality himself to be able to do that.

why do i have to ignore them?
what right do they have to insult me?
there are sensitive personalities out there who start crying,
there are aggressive personalities out there who starting a flamefight with each other.
there are normal people who leave the server because of this stupid flaming peapole because they dont want play is such atmosphere.

its a good deed to play in good atmosphere.
so i really prefer matches with friends than playing with ppl like you.

If u ask me there should be a whining filter. I hear "lucker, sprayer, nader, noob, camper, rusher, runner, jumper (lol)" everyday.

And if ur the person that hates ppl fighting go to ur own server. If u like to fight ppl over the internet go to a server with ppl like that.
