Water effects

well ive been looking on how to make decent water and just couldnt figure it out, so i pretty much gave up. then i saw this map by Vig http://forums.soldat.pl/index.php?topic=7262.0  Then i was wondering on how to make water so pretty any idea/tuts?

He's just using a scenery graphic, wb-water1.png. Some old-skool mappers use polygons, or aqua-tinged blank.bmps.

I use blank .bmps for water, does that make me old school? TBH the best water I've seen is in the bottom route of ctf_snakebite.

  Oh i love that little puddle of water in snakebite, the moss is nice.

I find that blanks colored tinges of blue and green work just fine, sometimes with a layer behind the player to make him seem darker while underwater.
