Help me...
« on: June 20, 2006, 03:24:53 pm »
Hi,
I just bought a new laptop, installed my usual software/games and such, and downloaded some music.
That was a week ago. at the moment, it has Windows XP Home (Modifyed for my laptop..Compaq Presario V2000) Now, the bloody thing freezes when I try to open Windows Media Player. it just sits there and makes a weird noise (like the hard drive trying to read...) and I have to press the power button to get it to turn off, as the crtl-alt-delete has no effect. It also freezes when I try and open Adobe Photoshop CS2. I downloaded Winamp to replace WMP, but it freezes as well. also, Spybot S&D will not search for any spyware (it just locks up). I am temped to take it back to where I bought it and ask them wtf is going on, but I thought I might ask you guys, sein as your all so cluey about these things.

oh, and when it locks up, the HDD indication light is a solid color, not flashing (like if it was loading something).

Please, If you can give me some insight on what to do, I'd be greatful.

Just take it back to where you bought it and tell them. It's likely to be a HDD problem.

You know, i have no experience with compaq, but Dell customer support is great

Our CD Drive wasnt working, we called them, they concluded it was broken. And the next day, we received one free!
The computer is a moron.

I've been working at a computing helpdesk troubleshooting almost nothing but laptops and normal workstations for about 8 months, I know a dead laptop hard drive when someone describes one ;)
