I think they hax because they suck ass big time in the "normal" game. They're n00bs, they want you to lose your interest in the game.

hackers hack because they don't like the challenge of actually mastering things like aiming and moving and tactics, and like a million people above me, "haxorz r geh"

Hacking makes u lose more than u gain.

if you ever consider cheating(hacking is writing the application)  :
you loose in skill( all the skill involved by jumping and sidestepping at the right times is replaced by tele-porting).
the game gets boring(cap, return, cap, return)...,
you are detested and hated.(obviously)
you become dependent on the hack( after becoming used to this and returning to play with out a hack is difficult),
you get no satisfaction in scoring a good kill because you know it was not due to your own skill, taking all the fun out once again.
in short, cheaters want to be hated, they want to extract evil (as opposed to rightous, fair) fun out of the game, and they want to loose all hard-earned soldat playing skill(even if they had none to begin with), replacing that with cheating skills.

Hackers like the feeling of total power and control they can gain from cheating.
For signatures, you are allowed only one image in your signature which may not be wider and taller than 300 and 125 pixels, and may not be over 20kB in file size. No BMPs are allowed.

Wow, this has been a pretty one sided topic.
Well, anyways, I'm a person who has "hacked" before and I'd point out, only for fun and when it is okay with the other players, in my own server.
A lot of the statements made in this thread seem to be pretty ignorant and lack any knowledge of why some "hackers" "hack". Boer is pretty much right about what he said in his post, except about the "cheaters wanting to be hated" and the stuff after that.
Most people I know who have "hacked" or cheated in a game have only done so for some fun because they're getting bored and will stop doing so if someone asks them to, though not all "hackers" are like this, the ones that hack and deny and say it's skill and all that bs deserve a ban.

Oh yeah, in before you guys say I probably suck at Soldat.
I'm pretty good at it, not the best nor the worst.
I only posted here because I think one sided arguments are stupid.
Oh yeah, someone should lock this thread, I can see some flame wars starting.

Edit: Oh yeah, I don't think people should "hack" in other people's servers, that's plain wrong. To "hack" in someone's payed for server, against their rules...Plain wrong.

Because they they are the cheating type. you know, the ones that cheat at everygame, so they dont have to play for hours getting their skills up. But, new hacking prevention technology should prevent that.

Maybe the people I know and myself are odd people then, meh.
Whenever I play a game, I get quite good at it, then get bored, cheat a bit, then play legit and so on and so forth, it's a cycle to keep me interested in it, to make it different...Though I usually just move on to a more interesting game though instead of cheating.
Though with Soldat, I can use Server script to make it different.
Ah, Good old Warcraft 3 was the best, once you got bored of that you could make your own maps and edit stuff, t'was awesome and kept things interesting.

I do not hack but I have to agree. If you don't ruin anyones game or annoy anyone or cause yourself not to die or kill someone then, what things wrong are you doing? oh yeah enesce you can't ban someone on the forums for hacking in a game. so not really  [ban] ...

[ban] the above poster.
...
I don't condone hacking in servers where it will ruin other people's game play.
All I do is cheat every now and then with friends in a locked server, what is wrong with that? It is no way near as bad as creating a hack that nearly completely takes all the skill out of the game and ruins game play and also release it in public for anyone to use.

Nutemo you are a douche.

You are a douche because you think that everything is ok when you aren't playing someone else's server, you are wrong.

Hacking is never Legal, it is never Good for the community and it will certainly never be tolerated by anyone who take any pride in their skills just to be undermined by a hacker. Not to mention the total lack of ethics you or any "script kiddy" has will or will ever show.

a-4-year-old...You’re wrong, I do not have a lacking of ethics...You would be incredibly ignorant to assume that your's are the only ones that exist. Pretty much every religion has a slightly different set, not saying I have a religion though, I philosophise...

Oh yeah, if it's illegal, sue somebody, you'll find that you have no case here.
Please I implore you to try, because then you'll find out this is not illegal, instead it only a question of ethics, in which a lot of you don't seemed to have argued right.

Here's a question, what is actually wrong if someone made a hack for a game that they are the best at, to change a small part to make it more interesting?
There is nothing wrong about it; it's the same as a lot of the server scripts people are making for Soldat. The server scripts simply a way to modify how you play the game so you can enjoy another aspect of playing the game.
That is all "hacking" Soldat is...The only thing that people find wrong about it, is that it does not have the permission of the game creator, nor does it take into account what other players want.
This is why Hackers are so detested in gaming communities; they are changing how they play the game, making it easier for them and harder for everyone else. Now you'll find that not all hackers prefer this, they find it wrong to ruin others people's game play (I don't like ruining other's game play) and so these people instead "hack" in their own servers. The people that cheat and make it unfair for others do deserve the persecution you all wish to give them.

Also, The Specialist, you're right, one cannot really get better at a game from Cheating, this I agree with completely. That's why I usually play Soldat normally, I mean, I haven't cheated in it for months and I play it everyday, I really like this game and also, like a lot of people, hate it when people come into a server and make it unfair by using cheats, especially when they say that they are good at the game.

I'm happy that 1.4 will be harder to "hack" and hope no more "hacks" get made for it, because people don't use them right and besides, who needs the modifications with all these great server scripts that will be coming out soon?

Why are you all arguing with me?
I'm agreeing with you that cheating in other people's servers is wrong and makes other people's game play ruined. I agree that cheating does not make one better at playing the game.  Are these not the reasons why you detest "hacking"?

I hope you all aren't just "it's either black or white" people, have you never heard of grey?

Considering nutemo's account AND karma are both still intact someone must agree with his views here. Wiki'ing "hacker" it came up with this interesting statement (All thanks to wiki): The term usually bears strong connotations, but may be either favorable or degenerating depending on cultural context.
Hackers could be those who use their skill for ill purpose or they could use their knowledge to strengthen programs whether by finding weak spots in programming or developing fire-walls/anti hack programs w/e for people to protect their computer with. I frown upon nutemo's use of hacks "for fun" but do not hate him under the circumstances he uses them in.
A-4-year-old, your views are quite biased and perhaps born from a bad experience with a hacker. Or is it ignorance? I'd rather not support "hackers", especially with moderators around but I support hacks for positive use, not as ego-stroking game breakers.

Hacking is an alteration of the game itself, that clearly makes it a copywrite infringement, If I had any proof of you hacking, I would not be able to sue you, I don't have the copywrite. I have no case not because of the legality, I have no case because I have no proof. What will eventually happen is your ass will get banned from every respectable server out there.

Shut the fuck up about this "I only hack for fun" bullshit, every gamebusting hacker thinks it is fun, every person who doesn't hack thinks it is fun. There is no gray area in this, you either hack or don't hack. It is as simple as that.

Different context, different perspective. I guess when I was talking about good hackers, there are no "good" hackers when it comes to Soldat unless they're recruited for a reason. Perhaps another reason people hack is because they bear ill will towards Soldat and/or it's community? Revenge perhaps? *Point's at sin bin*

Alteration in itself is in no way copyright infringement, so long as you are not distributing the entire modified work. What it is, however, is a violation of the EULA, but there are some issues and gray areas there. Not to mention that for a small independant developer with limited funds, the chances of you ever having reprecussions is low, in fact, about the only time you will suffer is if you do something blatantly illegal or against your hosts ToS (which is how most hacking sites get shut down by those who persue such measures; there are usually more than just hacks on the sites)
