I was at my friends house with my old crappy laptop.
We were both bored and wanted a new first person shooter game.
I snagged my laptop and googled "Freeware first person shooter"
I scrolled through like 5 pages of results looking for something appealing, I finally found this awesome site, http://soldat.pl.
Soldat wasn't a fps, but it was the coolest game I ever played since Goldneye, me and my friend loved it.
I went to it, soldat could barely play on my laptop, but it ran great on my friends computer.
When I got home later that day I installed it on every pc I had and played it for hours.

That will be exactly two years in a few days.

Years ago in my sophomore year of college, a buddy introduced it to me.

Found it on a CD in a magazine  bought. I'm pretty sure that was back in 1.1.5. And Way before I had the internetz. So I spent hours playing against bots xD

Every single one of ma mates had it b4 i had the internet, they were always talking about it at school and going crazy while explaining their moments in soldat. So I asked a friend to download it onto a flash drive for me and i spent every moment of my free time for about 4 months playing bots (quite sad actually). I'm the only one out of my group that plays it now coz they all stopped as soon as i installed it onto my comp. ;D

I was born playing it!

A friend introduced me to it, the 1.0.5b version. I played it for like a month, then stopped again. Half a year later I stompled upon it among the other no-longer-using files, and I tried it out. I got hooked, and I've been playing ever since. Ofcource there has been breaks, some long, some small, but I've stayed with the game since it's very beginning.

Well, it wasn't a friend who told me, it was my cousin. But hey, close enough.
I'm like echo_trail here, except I think I started with 1.1.5 back when that was the latest version (and now I'm registered, wow)

Ditto. I didn't play online until 1.2, but first got introduced back at the 1.0.5b stage thanks to APC mag or something.

I have reason to believe Keron cyst told me about the game without even knowing he did so, I played stick soldiers 2 and after slaughtering the bots i was like, woah,  this game blows, no mouse support and crap, maybe there is a game that is better then this, and i went to the stick soldiers forums and there was a topic called something like "Games like this" or something so i look in there and the first or second post was something like "Get soldat it is amazing and it has multiplayer and Blah blah features blah blah..." so i downloaded it, took an ak-47 changed me name, and shot up some bots before venturing into the vast online world that was soldat.

This topic seems really familiar, but I can't find another one like it.

Anyway, I got a message from my friend about Soldat back in 1.2.1. I had practically just gotten Gunbound, and thought Soldat was turn-based. Turns out I was wrong. I didn't download it until after I went over to his house and played it. Man, even against bots, it kicked ass. I started trying crazy things - chainsaw fights, SOCOM-only battles, knife fights. When I got home, I downloaded it. Found out about mods, got into them. They kept making Soldat a new experience.
