I have already made up my mind but I want to know what you would do in the same situation.

Vista - In general it runs slow. The start menu is fast and convent. All the most important programs work fine with a little tweaking. Can not play any games that use punk buster. The file structure/explorer is useful, optimal and efficient. HD audio chip is not fully supported. Sometimes it lags and volume decreases slightly randomly.

XP - I know how to tweak this OS to be an optimal running speed. It has limited 64x support. All programs, drivers and hardware work without any problems. Lacks the few useful features introduced in vista.

Downgrading always feels like a step backwords even if it is better for you.

Well vista isnt technically out yet, so just stick to the xp until they put a price tag on the vista.

WTF why can't it play games that use punkbuster??? WHAT ABOUT Battlefield 2?!?!?!?/1/111

Also, I think I need to like fully upgrade my computer before I get Vista.

Meh, doesn't phase me...m I'll give the finished version a go, but as always, I'll be reluctant to skip out on my current OS. I'll probasbly stay with XP until I need a nw computer or something.

XP 32-bit. Any performance gain by switching to 64-bit at this stage seems insignificant. When are you going to need 16 exabytes of memory anyway?

Actually, I'm starting to think I got a virus from playing AA. The first time. Because it defiantly worked the first time, but not again after that. Sill, there are only 10 processes running (under my username) and I know what all of them are. Regardless, pb wont let me play anything.

Running a beta OS probably ain't the healthiest thing to do right now guv. Especially with all the crap i've heard on the latest beta for Vista. Maybe once the RC's start pumping out where they're supposedly implementing better 'performance' and 'usability'. Apparently the beta, they confess, was just about throwing in as much [quality] stuff as possible.

As for 64x support ....the heck you need it for? Granted theres a gain in speed (so I hear from a mate running XP 64x) but stability should always come before that 500ms saved from loading something.

like I said in that other thread, you'll lose more performance by running vista than you'll gain by having 64 bit support

I am buying a MacBook, they are amazing, and I plan to have os x, ubuntu and xp on it... so I can do whatever I need to. The new dual core Intel chips are great ;D

I recall seeing this was supposed to be RC1. The start menu is buggy though. things randomly disappear off it ;)

But yes, some time within the next 48 hours I am switching back to win XP.

You can download Vista for free, as it's in the beta stage. However, it's an over 3 gig download and you need 1 gig of RAM for it to run decently.
