Cannot enable antialliasing
« on: December 14, 2009, 07:38:45 pm »
Yea, topic pretty much says it. Well to add some details, i just installed Windows 7, had XP and everything was just fine... When i enable antialiasing in setup and run soldat, it just goes off. 640x480 and 66 resize. I tried different resolutions, no effect. Seems like like video driver forces it off, however i checked it, "antialiasing application controlled" no effect at all. Any help?
PS
I can recall i had just the same problem, which i haven't solved on my laptop (hello f***ing Vista)...

so that pretty much means u can only smoothen the edges through driver (which looks kinda shitty..)..? Appreciate it biohazard, but just wanna make sure.. so would be great if ppl using win7 can respond here, if they can enable antialiasing via game settings.

Well, it seems it doesn't work at all, no matter what OS you're using.

At least I'm using Windows XP Pro (SP3), and Anti-Aliasing doesn't work neither in 1.5, not in 1.5.1. Doesn't matter if I'm playing windowed or fullscreen - it still doesn't work.

Which version were you using when Anti-Aliasing worked?
I know that in older versions (before 1.5 or 1.4, not sure) it worked fine even for me.

Soldat's built in AA does not work on Windows Vista or 7, and never has. It is forcefully disabled by the Soldat client because it produces a blank black screen if enabled. It is due to the old DirectX8 component Soldat is built on. We tried enabling it in one of the beta versions but it still caused problems for some people, so it remains disabled.

pretty much all (well not all obviously.. i meant 1.4+)... including 1.5.1 beta.
And thank you EnEsCe, makes sense now. I was just hoping for a different answer =(( since 640x480 resized looks kinda ugly without AA

You might be able to enable anti-aliasing for soldat.exe using the contral panel of your video card. That's what I did.

I tried that with NVidia Control Panel, but that didn't seem to work. FPS got really low, but the quality didn't improve at all. :S

Yea, i did the same now, and wow, quality is even better than with actual soldat application AA enabled. No lags at all... FPS dropped tho, but its fine for me, cuz i used to have 500 fps and now its 300, so it isn't noticeable at all. Thanks SerialK!ller
