I know at least 4 girls who are into anime and are not even close to being nerdy/emo/smelly. 2 of them never had a problem finding boyfriends, and other 2 are already married. True facts.

Well, you're the first to actually bring it up (rather than agreeing with me when I've suggested it), but yes, I've noticed a resemblance.

Anyway, congrats Gamer! I'm curious. What type of stuff are you going to be programming at your job? And something off-the-wall: ever heard of parser generators? I'm guessing it's probable you have.

I guess it's another one of those regional differences.
All those 4 girls I mentioned are from Russia (and I just remembered another one from Ukraine), but here in Canada I haven't seen any attractive ones that are into anime.
Maybe it's just isn't as popular here. I noticed a lot of anime-loving guys though.. :S

Thanks.  I'm actually not doing any programming at all (or rather, it makes up about 2% of my job), but rather, I write automated tests.  An automated test is basically a sort of webpage with a bunch of tables of commands and the expected results.  It's my responsibility to design, plan, and write those, then ensure that they pass every time they're run (fixing the ones that don't).  It's actually nothing at all like traditional testing work, and it's very refreshing to do something so analytical without being reduced to a code monkey.  The programming that I DO do involves writing modules to expand the functionality of the testing framework.  As a tester, I get to interact with the business analysts, developers, and other testers, and it's a lot more enjoyable than I would've expected work to be. 

And something off-the-wall: ever heard of parser generators? I'm guessing it's probable you have.

I've heard about them, yeah, but I'm not especially familiar with the concept or any implementations.
