Another type of chat messages
« on: June 17, 2009, 06:52:45 pm »
Right now we have normal chat and team chat, both of which appear in a chat window and above players' heads.
How about having another type of messages, which will NOT appear in chat at all, but would still appear above players' heads?

This would be good for those useless (but fun) taunts like "It's over, Jonny!". Nearby players would still see those taunts, but those faraway won't have their chat flooded with useless spam.

I'd vote for this to be used in taunts, with a prefix * or something, like ^ in team chat.

Sounds good to do not fill the logs with loads of useless spam.

Definitely! When those people go around screaming: "Die!" and "Son of a bit**!" it really spreads waves fast...And you got 2-3 ubber NOOBS not newbs filling up your log. How the fuck am I supposed to notice a team report saying EFC up?

That's not bad at all, I like that. Most taunts are just idiotic nonsense. Sometimes it'd be nice if those messages can be filtered in some way such as that. The only problem is, there are some users who use the taunts for other useful purposes. Then again, most of the useful taunts can be replaced with the use of the new radio messages.

You can hear it if they use the radio message. If your teammates still use taunts for calling the EFC, then this suggestion would counter it. It's better if they learned to use the new radio messages.

On a side note, for the TEXT being said when using the radio, you can actually modify it. It's essentially just taunts with a fixed sound file being played for each message.

I don't think the noobish players would use that function anyways, so it won't stop spamming your screen. It will only enable you to stop spamming theirs.

won't work, F11

Default taunts when installing the game should already contain this function on it. Like *Son of a b*tch! or *Die, newb!

It's already been mentioned that you could make messages starting with a ^ (Team chat-reports) show up. And some people don't even know how to or don't have enough reflex\time to use the radio messages, which can be a pain in the ass. Good point though, got me thinking for a min.
