Shooting where you think the enemy might be.
Not being able to see them and with no indication that they are there.

Interesting opinions. To me spraying is to shoow off screen by using auto and to that direction where you think enemy might be. In otherwords I don't think is random shooting.

By shooting off screen by using semiautomatics or Barret/M79 is "blinding" to me not "spraying".

To throwing nades like blinding or spraying is "spamming" them.

Someone already said that auto user who don't spray is stupid. I disagree much. I know much good auto users who don't spray and are very good players. Everything in auto using is not about spraying.

I'm going to use your definition of spray (which is shooting off-screen with an auto at a general direction where you think your enemy might be) and argue against your point.

Actually, if you don't spray at all, it is very stupid. I mean, let's say you have an enemy off-screen, and he happens to be the one holding the flag. He's gonna die, and you have an auto. Are you going to stop shooting in that flagger's general direction as soon as he runs off from your sight? If you had, there is a very high chance that the flagger would be killed and the flag be returned, but if you hadn't, the flagger would manage to escape and cap.

Yes, using the auto is not all about spraying, but the ability to spray in autos is a big advantage - not utilizing it is just limiting yourself. So those "very good players" you're talking about have either sprayed at some point, or are very silly not to use this to their advantage.

Spray : [sprey]
Common technique used by untrained insurgents, gang members, Somalian pirates, and Stephen Seagal, in which one bearing arms fires without aim in the general direction of that which one is attempting to strike. Often an inferior fighting technique highly relying on luck and/or ammunition capacity.

Sorry, Stephen Seagal.

If it's "blind shooting" at a general direction of an enemy, do you call Agent smith hitting Morpheus' leg when he was running at full charge spraying? Or sniping? O_O

Spraying - shooting offscreen in a general drection of an enemy (enemy's out of sight, but you can still guess where he is). That I don't mind and sometimes do that myself. And in my opinion it takes a good amount of skill to aim and kill someone offscreen. It's not easy and actually deserves some respect.

Noob spraying - shooting randomly, without any clue if someone is there.

Maybe it you should've mentioned what kind of spray you mean - general spray or noob spray.

A mini question for spraying-
If you have general indications that the enemy is at a spot (you saw the bullets flying from a distinct spot, and recognized it, or you saw the enemy trenching in at that spot after killing you) that is 1-2, maybe 3 screens away, and you shoot a barret shot without scoping, but relying on the bullet drop knowledge, and kill the enemy, is it spraying?

It is to me a serious question, as you know where is the enemy, but actually, you dont know if he is still there (2 screens are ~110m, which gives place to the enemy to maneuver).
Last year, I dreamt I was pissing at a restroom, but I missed the urinal and my penis exploded.

That is also spray, whether you scoped or not, because you were aiming at a general direction. It just so happens that the shot hits. You can also say that it wasn't spray, but a way to check the spot for anyone hiding around that place.

If you can see him, it's aim. If you're guessing/estimating, you're spraying OR checking the spot (or both). That's the simplest form of the definition.

It isnt really general direction, as you know that the enemy is there (lets say, you saw him proning at a distinct spot, got killed, respawned) and after that killed him from 3 screens away (you estimated the bullet drop)

Or from 1 and a half screen you saw the bullets coming from a single spot (as all the bullets are being fired by a single player).
Last year, I dreamt I was pissing at a restroom, but I missed the urinal and my penis exploded.

Oh, that'd be a blind shot.

If you know he's there but can't see him directly it's a blind shot.
