I thought of making a new map when I had a cool idea:

At the moment we are able to set a background color for the top and the bottom of a map fading in each other. But I think it could be cooler if you as a mapper would be able to choose in which direction the fading goes or how many colors you use. You could have one color on the left and one on the right side fading in each other (cool for maps with 2 or more different themes) or one color on each edge, it would offer new ways of mapping going with backgroundcolors :)

Yes, the format would change, but the format is not perfect. Mapping needs some progress and you can´t make it better if you avoid thinking about a change. It is like real life. If you stay the way you are while everybody else changes you will loose your friends, it seems then for other that you are conservative or simply odd.

Use an huge overstretched scenery, as everyone did already.

As you may have noticed big scenery is slowing down your pc when you play. Soldat is not played by many people with a good pc and they get problems when playing on maps like ctf_Conquest (just see the overstretched fx_li_spot.png and you know what I mean).

well, putting lots of sceneries or huge sceneries in a map is the map maker decision, but if there are 2-3 maps with these I think it's not a big problem.

Well, show me how you make a big scenery that may be custom (default mappers have no chance to do this) that is not 100mb big, that looks not overstretched and is downloadable without more than 1 archive.

If you find something I will remove the poll and ask a moderator to close this topic

Any image 1x2 works well. Paint each pixel of the color you want and stretch it to like... 30000%?

Okay, here is a screen of what I´ve got.

It works, but it will be really ... annoying ... if you have a slow computer and would like to play a map with this backgroundscenery.

that kind of scenery doesn't makes the computer go slow, keep that in mind.

This scenery is only 2x3 px.

What kind of pathetic computer has trouble running soldat maps? I know mine lags when using the enhanced mod but thats hardcore(server with 4 or more people).

This would be a good idea for a fire and ice map. Dark Crusades image looks ok, maybe tighten it up a bit and it would be sweet

Shard, Soldat lags normally even not on my computer, but on maps with very big scenery (like my newest zombiemap inf_Vault (playable on !Elite Zombies)) I get problems with that.

Well, I support the initial idea of this topic, despite the workarounds that exist. I have experienced lagging problems with Soldat even on higher-end PC's before when playing on maps with large, stretched scenery, and it seems to be a rather annoying problem. Not game breaking, but if it's fixable, why not do it?

I just recently had this idea and i fully support it. Map format needs to be changed at SOME point, and this would be a nice feature to add.
