Why I pretend Soldat doesn't exist IRL. Is Soldat's strangeness its own undoing?

Still really strange in my opinion. I used to mention Soldat at every lan hahah even everyone is laughing at me cause its a cool game even in 2D. We can get more players like that, with some advertising or the community and this game will die slowly.

I was reading some threads and registered just so I could comment on this one.

I played soldat furiously for about 2 months approximately....about 3-4 years ago.


It made it's mark on me.

Even though I was crap at the game and it has "functional" graphics how can anyone hate it?

From knife throwing to mad up close mashing deathmatches, it's a good laugh if you don't get fragged to often.

The last time I tried to play it, about 2 years ago, there was players seeming to teleport all over the place, not good.........

So, I think it's good for what it is.  Yes, WOW, etc are so different but.......as usual we are looking at quality over substance.

Anyway, those people who say "sh£$ game"  you should remember that they probably don't have much of a life lol, as its soaked up by wow etc.........with soldat you can wander off when your blood boils.....

Make sure to try 1.5.1 too once it's released. It'll have a plenty of nice improvements and fixed bugs, as well as some neat new features. Many maps are going to be improved and have better looks than older maps, so overall Soldat should look a little better.
1.5 is definitely worth trying too - even though it has some annoying bugs - comparing to "2 years ago" it's using an advanced anti-hack system, so you won't see any "teleporting players" anymore (unless players are teleported by server scripts of course).
Have fun, hopefully you'll stick with Soldat for longer time now.

I've never actually directly told someone of Soldat.  People have either seen me play it in class, reading the forum and asking what's it for, or overheard me explaining another person about it.

The people I know that know of this game have gotten completely diverse responses.  Very few have initially loved this game and continued playing it for many months.  Some have tried it for several minutes then grew bored.  Many instantly turned it down and stated that it looks "gay" or said "how can that look fun?".

I'm not afraid to tell people that I play this game regularly, make maps, and support it.  Even if it gives them the impression that I'm a nerd, it doesn't bother me.  It just shows how simple and close minded those people are.

I introduced Soldat to a few of my friends, but they turned it down after a few tries. I asked why and they said that they "just didn't like it." It would've been nice to have known someone who plays, but it doesn't stop me.

We don't talk about the decline of soldat. We just talk about the glory days of soldat and hope people start playing it to find that silver lining.

Funny I just discovered this game about 5 days ago. And I love it. I'm an all around gamer, hell, I been playing Classic Doom with mods for about 9 years of my life. Soldat is a wonderful edition to my gaming collection. I even told two friends and they loved it too. I wish you guys would've told me about this stuff sooner. Y'all left me in the dark for 7 years!
