I want to know if anyone knos what engine soldat was built on or what program was used??

It was written in Delphi, presumably from scratch. Will see if I can find anything else.

I believe Soldat was written from scratch, without any base.

As far as i remember Soldat was using Omega components and all other stuff was written by MM.

starting to work on project using the software used to make soldat. It wont be used to intentionally take soldat's fame its just something i would love to release upon the soldat community.

Nah, I'm sure something can, if its creator has brains and understands what's Soldat truly loved for. Speaking of Soldat clones - from all of the clones I've seen so far - none of them have movement physics and mechanics that Soldat has, which is why they don't feel like Soldat at all.

Well, in case you're not aware, Soldat's current code isn't exactly the best. It's buggy, unoptimised and really outdated in some parts. If you're gonna code something from scratch - you're probably better off asking what's used for game development in general.

@L[ONE]R your are correct im not aiming for an exact clone of this game but i am looking for great engines and software for the creation of a 2d side scroll shooter. no game is perfect every game has buds and glitches but ive failed to see a game better than soldat other than crash commando for the ps3 but thats ps3 i just need help finding software and engines and if anyone would love to help me ill be Very thankful.

I would look in to using the unreal development kit. it's free, so long as you don't sell what you make. I'm dieing to get a computer that can run it. but the again it may be a bit advanced for a 2d game BUT then again you did mention Crash commando (ftw) and that's a full out 3d game with hd graphics and if your shooting for a game like that UDK is your best bet.

Unreal dev kit is for full 3D. And btw, crash commandos sucks like shit, all it has going for it is its gimmicky 2.5d graphics and 'if we put lots of money into this it will be good' feel, gameplay sucks balls.
