Just found an old Polish rap gem:

If you're a fan you'll immediately recognize this one.

Also:

Sydney Polak, always had a knack for lyrics. You could say it's hip-hop, only better.

Trzeci Wymiar - Dla mnie masz stajla.
I used to get horny to this.

There's a Frisian song I know that's sung in the Klaaifrysk dialect (which surprisingly is exactly like my dialect which is Waldfrysk, except that I believe about 20 words are different or pronounced differently.. I don't even know why have 2 dialects if they're otherwise the same damn dialect.) Anyway, it's called Wer Bisto by a band called Twarres. It's a worldwide favorite for Twarres fans even though most can't speak the language. I'm not really a fan of this type of music, but it is a nice song. For those that might like Twarres, they have fluent English songs as well.

Music Quest -> language 'russian'
If its not pop, its great.
lol. Most of the russian music fails, sadly. :/

What about (includes some closely related languages):
Splean- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1xQ5A-MSJc
Nautilus Pompilius- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5mTTMmt-hs
Zemifra- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4azBUsD9s0M
Korol i Shut- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCiOFnGv2gg
Lyapis Trubetskoy (Belarussian)- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9QQKyIVVzvg
Noize MC- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O36vEOjU8zw
BI-2- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSFLJRBQpFo
Aria- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1lLGQ-5pTI
Lumen- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6-gEa1vi3Y
DDT- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQsDjxztfXA
5'Nizza (Ukrainian)- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGQy0xpsbeo
Red Army Choir- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dR3SZ4sg_ig
Flёur (Ukrainian)- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJFyTDgJJz0
Don't know, personally I think the voice in many of them just sounds bad. :/ Either that, or they intentionally try to sound like hobos and old farts trying to play/sing modern music. At least when it comes to rock.

Splean - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1xQ5A-MSJc <-- that, however, I like. Zemfira is decent, has her own charm but isn't trying to be too old-fashioned. My personal favorite: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6iGpdkgr57g .Russian rap sounds OK for rap, but I hate how a lot of it is made by back alley punks for back alley punks. :|
Last time I remember watching russian MTV channel it was filled with either the "hobo rock" or cheap pop and techno with absolutely terrible lyrics and with everything else below average. That was quite awhile ago though, so it might be different now.

Oh by the way: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1awcNq8L924

Golden method of finding decent music:
Avoid MTV as much as possible.
It is possible to find something decent, but there are also enormous chances that you will have to listen to music which you will not be able to unhear, no matter what.

To put some bands/singers i like from this region:

Drum'n'zez -self described 'agro reagge/pannonian surf rock'; a band from Novi Sad
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVprXCDmi94 prefer this one due to the more chilly sound

Zaa -reagge band from Krusevac
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hC9zcybPTNU purely instrumental, check the others

Samostalni Referenti -ska-punk band from Belgrade
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1VSIQ6XKGA

SARS (Sveze Odsecena Ruka Satirania)- band from Belgrade, varying genres, but can be described as a mix of reagge, ska and hip-hop
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x4LEk0OLJk8 this is from a newer album which is a bit more emotionally ridden
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LeBQ3IQvnZw from their older album

Riblja Corba- one of the great ex-yu rock bands from Belgrade, mostly socially and politically ridden songs
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFlQA8Bpevg

Atomsko Skloniste- a ex-yu rock band from Pula, strong anti-war and social themes, have released an album on english
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lI3RExsuFmY

Azra- one of the best known new-wave bands around here, necessary music to know
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2vtGpKdi-U
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qffLyVjX5FU

EKV (Ekatarina Velika)- best known, most successful ex-yu rock band ever.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iuSthfwzjPs

Josipa Lisac -one of the most renowned female singers in the region, active since 1968.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HbbyvrafBCg this is one of her older songs

Bajaga i Instruktori- a famed ex-yu rock/pop-rock band from Belgrade, the frontman was a member of Riblja Corba, they have some lovely ballads
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VJGje0WyxA made for a theatrical performance
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLpLUOcczno perhaps one of my favourite songs ever

Elemental- a hip-hop band from Zagreb, dont know what to say, try to listen
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLpLUOcczno

Hladno Pivo- a punk-rock band from Zagreb, one of the most popular bands around here
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXwBhrMnsic
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EAeZPiZbpvw

Let 3- one of the trademark punk-rock bands from Rijeka (which is quite famous for its musical history), they are quite famous for their performances during concerts
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EAeZPiZbpvw also known for satire and political songs, here they are all dressed as our prime-minister
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9n5s2y0jH4w

Mandrili- rock band from Rijeka,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pd80Fkd2_N8

Brkovi- a 'satire' band from Zagreb, they describe their genre as "punkfolkwellness" (also their first album), basically a mixture of rock, punk and folk
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1sO4bF2RAVc

Ramirez- rock band from Zagreb, a part of the new-new-wave
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m2p_0IWzK8g
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=krrExcFoUMo

Pavel- side project from the frontman of Ramirez
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NSJm7KmC2q8

Quasarr- rock band form Rijeka, sometimes compared to EKV due to some similarities in their songs
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLNWXA382HE

Urban & 4.- (alt) rock band from Rijeka, the frontman is a former member of the renowned rock band Laufer (also form Rijeka)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DT_2YrhH_1Y
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8ohp6bfYOc

Oh man, it took me almost 40 minutes to make this, and i just scratched a small part of the good music from here. There are also some really important bands like Bijelo Dugme, Zabranjeno Pusenje, Leb i Sol, Parni Valjak, Idoli, Indexi, Goran Bregovic, Time, YU Grupa, Kerber, Crvena Jabuka, Bombaj Stampa, Psihomodopop, and ohgod so much many more. Also, sorry for the immense post.

And i excluded some 65-80% of the currently "popular, publicized and similar music" (aka. estrada) because it mostly sucks and i avoid it as much as i can.

No offense, but I call bulls**t.
If any lyrics ever made a difference in my life and actually helped me form some of the opinions that made me a successful person so far, they were hip-hop and rap lyrics, mostly Polish, as that's what I used to listen to the most as a kid and teenager.

I can remember malpa, but for some reason never liked him more than Eldo or Pelson really, his lyrics were good, but his beats too generic.
Lona never appealed to me, but Kaliber 44 I can relate to alright.
Still, I mostly used to (And still do) listen to Molesta, Trzeci Wymiar, and Sokol, because I wasn't too familiar with the older, and less streaming 90's hip-hop scene.

I know what you're talking about, what I myself meant was that you were wrong sayign that hip-hop isn't musically ambitious, and therefore, lacks influence.
