Map Shows, but not solid
« on: February 11, 2007, 04:16:00 pm »
I just started using "Anna's" mapmaking program, and it seems to work fine, except that when I try to play the map in Soldat, my character just goes through all of the pollys.

Also, what are waypoints?

You have to hit File:Compile to PMS before you play the map ;)

Uh ... pardon ? Alright, you open up your map and instead of hitting 'Save' you hit 'Compile to PMS'. And don't go funny and start laying on about what other things PMS stands for. 'Cuz no one cares.

also try "Strg + A" to select all polygons and then set all polygons type to "normal", you might have changed that by accident

ok, i fixed it (and I wasn't gonna say anything about PMS).  I did "Compile to PMS as..." and i guess that did it.  Doing just to PMS didn't help, but thank you for your help Raithah

Nice of you to respond Avarax, but that wasn't the problem.  Thanks anyway.

And can anybody answer my question about waypoints?

They make your map more popular.

I'm serious, they do. Most people for some reason like maps with waypoints on them... probably because they allow gameplay offline, as they direct bots in movement throughout the level!

Waypoints can even become such a pain in coding at times, so much so that some people have found entire jobs here just out of waypointing other people's maps. ;) *wink wink* *nudge nudge* There are some waypoint guides at the top of the Bot section to get you started.

Waypoints are the paths bots take :). They're rather easy to get a hang of, just takes a simdgen of practice.

BTW, there should be a tutorial for all that stuff in one of the Mapping forums. Not that anyone minds responding to your questions here ;).

Edit: Whoops. Didn't mean to double post what Keron already said.

ok, thank you all

edit:  and I made my first map.   ;D   It's really short, and I planned it longer, but it really didn't turn out that way.  Its ctf_Poke'_____Slide (but it's a race map).  I would attach a pic if I knew how.

another question:

Is there a type of poly in this program to make the soldat players bounce?

Nope, you make 'em by piling about fifty polygons on top of each other. And race maps beging with rce_ :)

I know about rce :D, but I think it's fine

Do you know a way to take screenshots, or even better: cropped screenshots?

Hold Alt and press Prt Scr/Sys Rq, the key just to the right of F12. Now the actively selected window at the time is copied in your Clipboard, so go to Paint or some image editor and paste it ([CTRL] + V). If you want to copy the entire monitor, don't hold Alt in pressing Prt Scr.

Cropping depends on the image editor you're using. For Paint just select the entire graphic (it is automatically selected if you paste something) and adjust the corners, dragging around the image itself as needed.

ok, thanks!

Also now, anyway to put an image in the map?  I've seen it before.  Maybe it has to be a specific type like .jpg or.gif?

Have the Scenery Tool at hand and right-click.
