Sounds Looping
« on: January 13, 2008, 04:20:10 pm »
I wanted to make a sound mod, changing the sounds that come up when a team scores, caps the flag, etc. Now I got a problem. I made all the sounds myself in FL Studio, but in the game, once they occur, they're getting looped without an ending. There's about 2 seconds delay and then the sound comes up again, and again, and again....

Even when I go back to the menu.

What have I done wrong?

I've got that problem sometimes too. Convert the sounds to the .wav with another program (not this you used first) even if they're in .wav. If it still doesn't help just add some plain sound at the end.

I've found this too occasionally. I'm not sure why it happens but I think it may be if a sound is shorter than the default soldat one, sometimes the game feels the need to loop it in order to compensate for the shortened length. Adding about a second of silence on the end usually fixes this.

I'm not entirely sure why it happens but I believe this may be why.

It happened to atleast half of the weapon firing sounds in my Warzone mod. I don't think the length of the sound is what matters, because I tried using a 0.92 seconds long sound for the steyr I think. It's probably the format it is saved in, maybe some glithc at the end of the sound file, but there is a possibility that it can also be cause by a short sound, as Mangled said. Just clip it, or add some silence, I've found that Audacity is best for these minor things, but I also use it for the project I'm working on, and for everything else that needs editing.

Yeah Audacity is the best program for fixing this problem.. very easy to use.

I find there's a tendency for the looping to occur if you're just putting sound straight into the soldat directory without having saved or edited it in audacity.

It's not the sound lenght problem. It's the problem with the format/compresing. You can use longer or shorter sounds.

Btw: I made most of my sound in MS Sound Recorder sometimes editing a bit in Nero Wave Editor.

I think commercial games have a different compressing format, I tried with a couple of sounds that I left unedited and 4 out of 6 have looped, every time with a different interval.
