this mod feature is kinda stupid :/. If it is like maps and ill have to download any mod that is on server is idiotic to me... some mods have a few mb so it will take long time with low speed or itll lag server with high speed... I want my own textures, sounds etc. If ill have to download every servers mod then my soldat from 30mb will expand to gigas because of some stupid mods that i dont want... Even if it will be changeable option :P.
Fireman if you like this idea because you think that all 'pro' have black blackground, white texture of gosteks etc, so change it also and itll be better resolution :/. If youll say that you wont do this cause you want pretty soldat, so dont tell me that theyre killing you. You can modify texture if you want.

2 Sauron: Community? I'd say 3-4 people so far..
People who just want to have fun might not like that feature, and it's understandable..
But it'll be useful for clan players.

I think the idea is good, though it needs a few changes.

For example, instead of making user to download server's mod (i have to agree, it's a bad idea), the server can just force default graphics to be used (and check the size of the files to make sure they haven't been modded).
Or maybe even have a list of mods, like "default graphics", "WW2 Mod", "TrenchWars Mod" and info where they can be downloaded. So user can either play with default graphics or a number of other mods that are allowed on the server. Maybe even combine all the mods in the list to a single mod that they would like better.
A list of files and folders to check can also be customisable. So you can setup the server to check only weapons graphics, or only sceneries, etc.

On official tournaments and clan wars it IS unfair to use cheatmods, but there's not always a way to prevent this. So why not to have such a feature for those of you/us that need it? In my opinion at least "force default graphics" feature should be added if not in 1.5, but in some of future versions.

Yea "force default graphics" is the best idea so far.

I think we'd all prefer to let them concentrate on coding the new version and setting up our beta instead of wasting their time showing us a preview.

Would it be possible to put optional widescreenmode in soldat 1.5.0?

In soldat.ini you can set any resolution you want, but then soldat will look a bit stretched :/

I got a ques about DLing the new versions...

If you DL the 1.5.0 when it comes out will you have to trash all of your mods aswell as the old soldat or is there a way to do it without deleting the mods?It confuses me...
If you've got previous versions and you download the new one, soldat replaces the files that are needed for it to run, not maps, mods etc.

Geekier than you!

widescreen would be an advantage to those who have it. more view = advantage.

Less view = disadvantage

ok?

it depends what map you're on.

Example:

Maps like Nuubia would be an advantage.

Maps like Laos would prolly be in the middle.

Maps like B2b would be disadvantage.

It's been explained several times that if Wide screen will be enabled, it will be done by adding black bars to the side. No disadvantage, no advantage, no screwy resolution stretch.

meaning WIDE SCREEN ENABLED means use full widescreen, not getting the black bars, LEARN FFS, LEARN BEFORE YOU SPEAK NINJA PANDA. Its the use of the extra screen to see widder, se the objects that are far beyong letting you have an extra advange if sniping or trying to see your enemies. in whatever game you play, that is considered an advantage, that's why StarCraft 2 is comming with that option to renderize the game without stretching the screen but not having an extra advantage on those who have WideScreen.

Still, it would be an advantage, if enabling it, would be for the people who purchase the game, since they get all the cool stuff and we have to suffer an average playability.

My monitor luckily has an aspect ratio option. I played Soldat in both stretched full screen at 16:10 and with aspect ratio - which adds the black bars on the side. So I did a bit of experimenting. I increased my mouse speed just a bit to play at full - on wide. Despite that the game was stretched, and sprites move slightly faster horizontally, I actually hated it. When the action was intense, I had to look all over just to see what was going on.

When I had Soldat at full in aspect ratio, which is then back at 4:3, everything was closer of course and I could see what was going on better. With a game as fast as Soldat on wide screen, you have more to look at, which in my opinion starts to distract. The sprites are actually smaller too in a sense - compared to your larger screen area. I'd say they'd have to be a bit bigger. I'm sure that Michal's next project: Link-Dead will be wide screen possible but the sprites in that game are bigger.

I think if you want a sense of what I mean by sprites needing to be larger, try out Teewars. It's a cartoony kirby style 2d shooter like Soldat (though still far away from being competition). Anyway, it has many resolution choices and covers all aspect ratios. So you can compare say 1600x1200 vs. 1920x1200.

Otherwise, playing with bars is not distracting at all. After 5 min, you don't notice that you're playing on a widescreen monitor.

try to get a barret in wide screen (none stretched, full widescreen enabled) and tell me if its better than a normal 4:3 aspect ratio. Where do you see more screen?

. . .

common sense.

just learn.

Evolve from this game, and GAMING to other ADVANCED games and PROFESSIONAL GAMING, and you will learn its an advantage.

learn.
