that animated scenery thing can be really nice!
uh, no D:. why not keep the soldat graphics as it is?

The default maps won't have them, so why worry about it?

Best news I've heard in a while besides this thread itself.  It's alright if custom maps use this feature, horrible if default ones will.

Yes... Who will make the first program with ability to add GIF sceneries, or is it already done?

Probably Chrisgbk's WIP Mapmaker.  But it still requires a lot of work.  So my best bet would be Polyworks.  Since its open-source and anyone can modify it to how they feel.

Because animated map graphics could let mapmakers get even more creative. One idea would to have a TW scene where there are .gif "soldiers" firing blindly downfield, giving it a degree of atmosphere. The list goes on and on. So stop being a wet blanket. =/

soldier that never die?! :O and has not side in the war!!! thats great! as it was said you can't control the gifs.

Think about it though: Animated waterfalls and grass could add a lot of feel to the game. Plus, it allows mapmakers to get creative, such as a giant mech in the background that moves back and forth.

... im just waiting for when mappers will adapt to 1024x1024 gifs. "Yeah it works on my 8 core machine @ 7GHz! so no worries!".

I say, that people with low-end machines won't be happy with animated gifs.

gifs have nothing to do with the server...its just a graphic dled like everything else in the map. If your computer can run soldat it can run a smegging gif. besides, i anticpate most animations wont be 500 frames longs, mostly 4 or so. artists arent that dumb.

argh, a double negativ... so this means it'll lag without the unfixed netcode? >.<

no seriously, set first priority on the netcode. and the polygonbugs, it sucks when soldat is 50% about to try to avoid the nade glitches.

Network lag has NO relevancy to Animated maps.... Any "lag" caused by Animated scenery is due to your shit hardware ~ NOTHING at all to do with net code. Besides, the net code  doesn't need to be "fixed", its not even broken; you all just want more from it.
