Ben, I thought you got a piercing and not a tattoo.

You're not talking from experience.

ok then why are elaborate tattoos so expensive
the ink costs next to nothing, you're paying for the skills of the individual tattoo artist, who needs to spend a big amount of time on doing stencils [it's cheaper if you get freehand but that can be less accurate], markings and whatnot

i don't need to have a tattoo to have looked into it and aski questions so shut yer piehole

It's less about "skills" and moreĀ  about the time it takes to have the tattoo done. Very extensive and elaborate tattoos will require several sessions to complete and the cost of those are usually based on how much effort and time the tattoo artist thinks it will take rather than their self-proclaimed "skill".

Really the only skill required in tattooing is controlling the needle, the rest is simply patience and time.

If by "stencils" you mean tracing onto transfer paper to print the outline onto the person then you're completely wrong, it takes a matter of minutes at the most unless the tattoo is huge, and even then it will be done in stages.

What kind of tattoo artist uses "stencils" anyway? They just transfer the design onto you and then go over it with the needle.

I know it must be frustrating to know I actually may know more about something than you but please try to remain calm.

i said they take time but they take skill as well fool... read what i actually say before you shoot your mouth... errr fingers off
you're saying that a retarded 7 year old could do an amazingly elaborate and artful tattoo if they took their time?

but oh wait
you don't have any tattoos either so i guess you're not talking from experience

Gotta go with Ben on this one.  There's a lot to being a tattoo artist.  In addition to controlling the needle, there's a lot of technique required.  Keeping the needle at the right depth, good strokes, shading, filling, knowing which types of needles to use, and so on.  Not to mention the medical end of things and taking care of bleeding and the rest.

Lots of artists use stencils.  All of my tattoos, including the custom ones, have been one that way.  But the stencil only goes so far, and when the time times to fill, color, shade, etc. it's up to the artist to do it properly.  Heck, if it was just about following the lines there wouldn't be apprenticeships to be an artist.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams it is
still a beautiful world.  Strive to be happy.

I've always liked the idea of a Okami art style design tattoo on my arm.

I have a tattoo and I'm not so desperate as to prove to someone on the internet that I have a tattoo as to take the effort to photograph it and upload it. I frankly couldn't care less if you do or do not think I have a tattoo, that's entirely up to you. At the end of the day only I know for sure, and you can either sit there and insinuate that because I'm not going to post a picture of my tattoo that means I can't possibly have one or you can admit that you're none the wiser and when it boils down to it you know nothing other than what you've read or been told about tattooing.

Maybe you should post a picture to prove that you know how to use punctuation and capital letters when forming a sentence.

dude you just wrote a 5-liner explaining how much you don't care if he believes you.

also, arm tattoos look f'in awesome when you got nice showing muscles. i've got one that will look so kickass with muscles, but i'm just so lazy to start lifting weights ;E

edit - wow did you just diss him because he's not posting on soldatforums with flawless grammar and punctuation? i guess he rathers making sense more than sounding like he's writing to NY times, because frankly he's making more sense than you on this case, EVEN WITH FLAWED GRAMMAR AND PUNCTUATION LOLZ

getting the tattoo and then starting to workout = stretched tattoo.
working out and getting the tattoo, stop working out = baad tattoo.

also, every tattoo artists places his tatts in a different way, so quit saying everyoine does it like that because yours got one like that.

there is so much more to being a good tattoo-artists besides following lines.
1.you need to be able to design great tattoos over and over + put them on the body the exact same way
2.you need to know what type of needles you need to use
3.medical shinyfoo for bleedings, alergies,...
4.you need to be able to hold the needle in the right way, same depths, not moving to fast or to slow,...
5.be able to shade the collors good.
6..lots more.

now just stop twating about if tattooing is easy etc and get back on topic.

now that i got metal in my face BECAUSE I'M HARDCORE TO THE MAX
i want to get some tattoos

only thing is people who are rich and famous can get them anywhere they want because they don't need to worry about working with them and since i'm not rich or famous [yet] i'm pretty limited with what i can do so that means no neck, hand or forearm tattoos unless i want to work as a stinky council worker

tribal tattoos suck
wall tattoos suck
portrait tattoos suck

i reckon the best ones are those bright and colourful mexican skull ones... but i'd only want to put original stuff a friend or i designed on myself

so yeah twates
opinions on tattoos and stuff you have

You should get a tattoo of a third nipple, unless you already have one.
