What is the best alternative for putty as ssh client? Is it worth learning to use cygwin?

What have you against putty? If you use cygwin, like I also do, you can use a normal unix xterm with the normal unix ssh cli client. I'm a fairly active cygwin user and I kinda absent mindedly switch back and forth between both.

In any case, there are two kinda interesting putty derivitives/forks which add some more functionality:

But anyway, there are a bunch of them for windows (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_SSH_clients) but Putty is by far the most popular afaik, and there's a reason for that.

I'm trying to play Wings of Prey, but there's some annoying bug which doesn't invert Y-axis for the mouse. So I'm looking for some way to just invert the Y-axis globally (as in, for the whole system). Are there any programs that can do that? (one that supports separate profiles for different apps would be super awesome)

thanks in advance.

Which is the better mouse?
http://www.logitech.com/en-us/mice-pointers/mice/devices/5750 this
or http://www.logitech.com/en-roeu/mice-pointers/mice/devices/4259 this

After some research, the 1st one seems better. Still, what do you guys think?

I love my mx518, I never heard about someone not liking the 518. I know nothing about the g500 though.

I don't know of any program that does this, but here's a simple autohotkey executable to invert your Y-Axis. If it doesn't work in that game, let me know and I'll change a few things around (some programs accept mouse inputs in odd ways, so this may take a try or two to get it to work).

Double-click to run. Ctrl+Y to exit.

Thanks, I tried it, but unfortunately it doesn't work during the actual gameplay. In the menus it works as intended, but when piloting the plane - it gets stuck spinning as if I moved my mouse all the way into the top-right corner. :S

I only found a program called Maf-Mouse, and it somewhat worked, but the downsides are that it breaks most of my gamer mouse functions since it overrides the driver itself, and that the program isn't available for free. :/

I have mx518 as well. PQ took the answer right out of my mouth. mx518 is a good mouse, you won't be disappointed with it (unless you're a lefty). Don't know anything about g500 though. It seems to have pretty good reviews, so it might be a good option as well. mx518 was out quite awhile ago.

I am left handed, but I've always used a mouse with my right. MX518 had the better review. My friend who has a G500 said they are both great. Cheeers for the help guys. Should have my mouse next week!

The most common cause for that is porn abuse.

That's strange. Does the program change the default screen resolution during gameplay?

Try the new attachment first. It contains two different executables, each one using a different input method. If neither solves the problem, then I might be able to troubleshoot, but it's a bit difficult without the actual program.

No, it doesn't change the resolution. I run it in a window though, if that matters.
For invertYInputMode.exe - it's exactly the same as the previous version you posted (works fine in the menu, but plane goes into a spin when playing).
For invertYPlayMode.exe - the cursor gets inverted in system and menus, but its Y-movement is very jumpy. During gameplay both mouse and keyboard stop working altogether except for the Ctrl+Y shortcut.

There is a demo of Wings of Prey here: http://www.gamershell.com/download_54548.shtml
I really appreciate your help, though you don't have to spend more time on this if it becomes too much work.

That does matter if the game is taking control of your mouse. Try running it full screen. If that doesn't solve the problem, then you're on your own.

Is that stuff about no talk about a certain anime serious? (I'm not talking ABOUT a certain anime series at ALL here just wondering why that's in the rules. I don't know anything about it, or like anime. Again, NOT talking about a certain anime series, this is ALL about the rules.) Also if is for real, can someone who knows PM me why it's against the rules. Same thing about the admin mentioned there. (I am very sincere. I'm not messing around I'd like to know what cataclysmic event took place to get it mentioned in the rules in such a stir way (if you want me to drop it just say so and I will.))

I'd like to play some DotA with my pals, the thing is, my friends are in the Middle East, and every time I join a game with them I get disconnected almost immediately probably due to my crappy internet. I can connect to people in USA just fine (because I'm in the USA).

So my question is, what type of internet connection would be suitable for playing with people across the globe, I don't know how else to put. I'm kind of hoping someone can give me an estimate in Mpbs what would be decent, I'm moving and since I'm dropping the lan phone I can put that money into a better internet package.

If you can recommend a company (like comcast, verizon, etc) that would be great. I've been looking at some comcast packages and saw 20 Mpbs (70USD), 50 Mpbs (100USD), and a crazy whopping 105 Mpbs (200USD) that is available where I will live. I don't know which to pick, so if anyone can help, it would be much appreciated.

I'm not anywhere near being an expert or anything like that so you'll need somebody to confirm me but I don't think the actual bandwidth is that much of a factor (as long as you're not going to be using the net concurrently with somebody else (another computer) and not trying to download something while playing DotA and as long as we're talking about figures in tens of Mbps or above that; 20 Mbps should be more than enough to play DotA (for most games even my 1Mbps net does just fine, even when hosting smaller games) (also note the Mbps instead of Mpbs, as in Megabit(s) per second, just a typo :])). What's more important (when talking about ping or connectivity) is the actual network infrastructure and it's general utilization (the 'stress' by all users) and possibly the ISP's limiting policy. I guess a way to learn about a connection's 'quality' would be to have somebody with that connection (as close to your new home as possible) ping various locations around the globe and see the results or if you know anybody local you could ask them about their impressions on the various connections as far as gaming goes. Yet still, when pinging other continents, the greatest difference in such results would be caused by the local infrastructure as such 'long-range' connections go through a few general, shared net-lines (e.g. the ones that go through the Atlantic Ocean) with all ISPs.

So I'd actually suggest reviewing your network properties (for example whether the ports are not blocked by your firewall or router and such stuff) and see if it's not at the host's end (whether other people from the US or elsewhere can connect to and play on their server).

Also as a side-note - I'm staggered by the prices of your internet connections (our probably most commonly used 100Mbps (20Mbps upload) connection costs a mere 24€/month (currently 34.33$), then again, I don't know the upload speeds on your offers)

I hope my long mumbling made any sense and is at least a bit helpful :]

Are these adsl connections? Adsl is usually a lot slower than the maximum speed companies advertise with. 20mbps should be enough, not sure about hosting games since your upload will probably be something like 1mbit then.
And yea, these prices are insane. Probably just cause you're not in a city or something? It's not as cheap as in Estonia in Holland though, but at least twice as cheap as you've got over there..

Why do useless threads on SF almost never get deleted? I'm referring to threads like this one: http://forums.soldat.pl/index.php?topic=40275.0
Even if they contain absolutely no useful information, they get locked but not deleted and just stay there forever taking up space. Is there some specific reason for that?

It's like God and humanity: it's fun to laugh at people who fail to give purpose to something they created.
