How do I change default music?

Call me cheap, but I want to change the 3 default songs in the game with some MP3 music. I have Audacity. I have to question.

I tried looking for the music files, but can't find them. Where are the files of the 3 default songs?

I have the appropriate things added to my Audacity to make music files. What kinda music file do I need to convert my MP3 files to?

in the sfx folder, in the folder modules
make sure you name the songs like the original, you cant change the song name that will be displayed ingame, i think

U need to convert the tracks to .ogg format and replace them in the folder croat1gamer already said.

Uh, two are IT, one is XM, and none are .ogg.

What do I do?

UPDATE: Tried it anyways. It didn't work. I'm gonna try to get IT and XM. Where and how do I do that?

I don't know about any of these formats, I thought it was .ogg because it's the common format... I have no idea. The best thing you could do is play music ingame using Windows media player or any of these music players or register the game and use the mp3 feature.

First - get the right .wav file.
Second - get the ModPlug Tracker and use it (actually OpenMPT). [link]

Just any wav or even midi file. But attempts with files as result of .mp3 to .wav may fail.

In many cases quality like 22,050 kHz 16 bit (mono) is enough for smaller filesize. You can set this in Sample -> Freq. (Hz) -> 22050. Dont even try make stereo file from mono becaue will sucks (too silent and stupid noise in background).

If you don't feel like converting .wav files into a tracker format, you can try looking for some modules you like at The Mod Archive or, if you're feeling old-school, at Amiga Music Preservation.

You can change the names of the songs in the file /Txt/default.txt. Somewhere past halfway down you'll see the lines:
Code: [Select]
Game Music:
None
"Bloody Soil"
"Gore"
"Necromancide"Replace them with the actual names of the modules. bloody.xm = "Bloody Soil", gore.it = "Gore", necro.it = "Necromancide"

And of course, you can always just use the audio player of your choice in the background. Be sure to set up global shortcuts if it supports them so you can control it while playing Soldat.

Fun Fact: With registered Soldat you can play .mp3 files and playlists instead of the default songs.

(yet another) Fun Fact: You can use a program such as Windows Media Player or Winamp to play music whilst playing Soldat.

Modplug tracker tends to convert music to really high filesizes, to achieve lower ones the quality gets insanely mauled.
