Just the name of this game caught my eye. Anybody played it? After getting a decent computer upgrade, this game looks pretty awesome.

Oh yea it's a great game. It's like Day of Defeat, but on the eastern front and MUCH more realistic.

I would say that it's the most realistic shooter out there, but the game has aged a fair amount by now, so I'd guess that things like the latest Call of Duty titles have taken that crown away.

Awesome game, according to my friends (who tend to have good taste in games, though I could never get them into soldat).

I played it as a UT2k4 mod but never the standalone version.

I've got 160 hours on it according to my Xfire, maybe even more. Good times playing this game, the tanks, storming apartments building alone with a PPSH, and calling artillery strikes. Tanks although not 100% authentic, it's the best of any game that isn't a sim. f**king amazing times being part of a counter-attack on German tanks with about a dozen T-34's and KV's from all directions moving in to capture a small patch of land.

Infantry combat takes a while getting used too, because it's slower and HOLY s**t YOU CAN'T CHANGE DIRECTIONS IN A SPLIT SECOND AND BUNNY HOP LIKE IN HALO! I found it kickass how there's momentum in your movement, so strafing side to side like a maniac isn't really possible. Taking out monstrous tanks with a panzerscreck or an antitank rifle is pretty rewarding, because you pretty much have to either stay in one spot and wait for your prey, or go out hunting and risk getting spotted 80% of the time before even getting in range. Even if you do get in range, you gotta pick your shots carefully.

Yeah I paid 20 dollars for basically a UT2004 mod, but then again it's f**king well done and change from the rest of the WW2 FPS genre. I recommend Operation Flashpoint / Armed assault too. There's usually a sale once in a while where you can get it for 5$.

EDIT: Also MOTHERFUCKING BAYONETS! FUCK YOU'RE SHITTY ASS KNIFING PEOPLE CALL OF DUTY, YOUR SHIT SUCKS!

My computer is too s**tty to play Armed Assault, but Operation Flashpoint can be good to come back to. It can be fun installing the Vietnam, Warhammer 40K, Zombies, WW2 and Starship Troopers mods all at the same time, having Space Marines vs Vietnamese. Though Operation Flashpoint does have one of those engines that brings back plenty of memories; which is a bad thing because its the 'yeah..I'm playing an old game.. and wasting my life' feel rather than a nice nostalgic feel.

You'd like DEFCON I think more.
