Should automatics (machine guns but not the Minigun) jam?

(burst shooting) only if they hold down the shoot button without stop, they should have to lift their finger up and reclick the shoot button.
only if they hold down the shoot button without stop, they should have to reload again to un-jam the weapon
only as a check option
only in realistic mode
only happen a percentage of the time say 5% chance it could happen every reload
none of the above

Soldat - non sprayers
« on: February 10, 2009, 10:34:41 pm »
Don't know if this has been posted before because I don't know what it would be called but I've called it as a way to stop sprayers in Soldat.

Don't you hate it when you are running away from a player with very low health and all he does is spray a shower of machine gun bullets at you and one of those annoying stray bullets hits you and kills you. Well there is absolutely no skill in that and what is Soldat but a skillful shooting game, well those damn sprayers have no concept of what skill is.

This could also help the sprayers though I mean it will help them to shoot straighter too so when you are running away they can't just aim in that general direction you are running and hope to hit. When you shoot in burst the bullets are so much more accurate and you can actually kill a few people because there is less recoil and more skill!!

I reckon the automatic guns (excluding the minigun - just because it is really weak anyways) should jam every 1/3 round of bullet say the Steyr AUG would jam at the 11th bullet (because it has 30 bullets in a round and 10 is the 1/3th of the round) if they didn't shoot in burst. This makes the game much more realistic and challenging, but if you thinkit is too realistic it should only be in realistic mode then tick it in the poll ;).

..I guess he has more skill hitting you, then you have getting away from him..

Horrible idea, no offense, but spraying is a part of soldat I find..:-\

And at the poll why can't you choose "None of the above", or "Keep sprayers"..

I'm a spray man myself..and it doesn't really help make that big of a difference, so I don't know what is so bad about spraying.  :P

Should put up a "none of the above" option on to the poll. Jams are gay and should stay in AA.

Anyway, firstly, spraying can be done with any weapon, just it occurs more commonly with the autos because of the amount of ammo and the low fire intervals. With that in mind, however, spraying with an automatic weapon rarely gets anywhere (unless you're shooting at a weak offscreen EFC, in which case they're probably doing acrobatics to try and dodge your bullets, even if you aren't spraying).

I say F11, because this idea only improves on one scenario of gameplay (slightly) while hindering all other situations (such as rushing, or trying to hit someone with an AK or Minimi, say. I used to tap, but now I usually fire about 15-20 bullets if there's enough enemies in one burst).

F11 - none of them. It's basically been pretty much explained.

In fact, spraying takes skill, and there have already been measures taken to reduce spray, especially from autos. For example, bullets lose a whole chunk of damage if they have travelled beyond a certain distance. This rule applies to all weapons except for explosives and the Barrett.

I'm not very much for this...
I think limited ammo is a better way to reduce spraying, but it was already much discussed.

Nerfing spray by adding yet another random factor? No thanks.

It's more of a skill problem imo, if you get gunned down like this you probably earned it for trying to prolong your hopeless efforts to seize the flag.

Spraying is only an effective tactic in realistic mode, since the few bullets which actually do hit you in Normal mode have lost alot of their velocity by the time they get to the target. And if the sprayer does hit you with enough bullets to make a kill, then congrats to him; he's either very lucky, good at aiming or you suck at evading, perhaps a bit of all three.

And anyway, jamming will be a nerf for all auto users, not just off-map spraying. And it's annoying when you get killed off-map by a sprayer? Well I find it annoying when I'm firring for ages at Barrett or M79 users who take advantage of the Minimi's relatively slow damage-per-second; by constantly cowering behind corners and grabbing medicpacks so that the only way to actually kill them is to rush madly straight at them, only to have an M79 shell or Barret to the face. And bink? All too often I've shot and hit at a barretter multiple times, only to have them still get a perfect shot at me. It could be his good skill, though I think that the way the "random" bullet direction is programmed has a factor in it.

But hey, I don't seriously whine about those things, as they're just part of the game and something that gives each weapon class an edge.

Off-map sprayers are kind of like M79ers or campers- they're annoying but not overpowered. Though having said that, you make the choice to camp or M79, where as "spraying" can be a very subjective term; some people specifically shoot off-map as a kind of indirect-fire tactic, while sometimes it's simply auto users who are just a bit trigger-happy (like me). And to some people (especially hardcore Barrett/semi-auto fans), the very act of using an auto is considered "spraying" even when the "sprayer" is good at aiming; well I guess that "spraying" doesn't have to be a derogatory term, but normally it sounds like they're just trying trying to whine at their opponent's weapon of choice.

Anyway- No. Frankly I think it's a terribly tedious, heavy-handed and blunt tool to solve a problem that in my opinion isn't that much of a problem anyway.

That perfectly describes the Aussie Government's filter. :S

eww no, just because you whine about spray doesn't mean you have to add a feature to stop it. soldat does take some skill, and bursting is one general component that not all people use, if other people don't burst well i guess they aren't "skillful". deal with it there are always retards who spray madly, but pure luck happens all the time and thats what spraying most of the time takes.

its the same as with the m79, spraying takes skill, but there will be always a lot more idiots who will ruin the ones who mastered spraying

I think it would add a nice little bit of unpredictability to the game (but only with a very very low chance of jamming, or under certain rare conditions, or both, so that it would happen maybe once or twice a round). I would love to see this tiny little feature added with proper customisation abilities.
And not as nerfing as the topic describes it. Actually, not nerfing at all.

Autos take skill, its when 1 shotters like you get lucky, thats what makes me pissed.

Besides, IRL (yeah I know its soldat) the AK47 and most likely the 74 are pretty rugged guns. I heard that they dont jam often.

No to jamming. And are you really whining about people with "no skill" who kill you? That's the very definition of a scrub.

Change the official weapons.ini to:
1. make autos lil' bit worser
2. make nonautos lil' bit better

'cause it's not that perfectly balanced. Everyone should have an equal chance to get a kill. Imagine a 2x Steyr + AK vs 2x Ruger + DE battle: there's no doubt the 1st are gonna win this.
