Alright, what (shooting) game should I play?
« on: February 19, 2009, 10:52:33 am »
I need suggestions on what game I should play.

Whilst I like Soldat, I'm also looking for a good 3D shooting game (first-person or third-person are both alright). It should be:

1. Free to play, meaning I don't have to pay to play. I can just download, register and play.
2. The weapons do not have a renting system - buying means it's in your inventory permanently.
3. The game allows for some variety and customization, instead of everyone doing/using the same things over and over again.
4. Please, as much as possible, no vehicles.
5. Preferably, a non-futuristic theme.

Please do not suggest GunZ or Combat Arms. I'm through with those two.

EDIT 20/2/09:
If there are zombies, all the better - and in this case, I accept vehicles.
No Counter Strike please.

Warsow
Nexuiz

Another one you could be interested is Enemy Territory and/or a mod for it called True Combat: Elite. Both are free.

sauerbraten, cube and combat cube (or sth)

pretty much the same, cause its on the same engine
its pretty much as quake, but non futuristic

they dont have rule 3

also try tremulous, but its a sf one (a former quake 3 mod, now free and standalone)

you have starsiege: tribes, but it is a sf one, with rts elements (buildables if engi) and it has jetpacks

if you need info, pm me

Try Wolfenstein Enemy Territory, old game, but it can be modded and I always loved it.

Argh! Rai beat me to it.

I also know of this multiplayer shooter zombie game my friend plays, and I will try to get the name for you. 8)

I guess you got no choice, but play Urban Terror.

I love jrgp for this.

Easily the best free FPS I have seen.

There is no good quality free 3d shooter. They simply don't exist.

Eh a4yo is mostly correct about this.

Though Wolfenstein: ET is awesome.

If you have an Nvidia card you can get the source engine SDK for free, which will let you play all Sourcemods for free. It's a pretty good deal. I would suggest Insurgency, but if you don't completely suck at the game, your teammates probably will.

I beg to differ, UrbanTerror is one hell of an awesome game. There are excellent maps, very realistic weapons, and you can powerslide and wall jump. It's also extremely popular (800 servers with a bunch of players at any given time) and runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux.

Survival Crisis Z or it got some similar name. Full of zombies, unfortunately it's just "free" game and it's not FPS at all. But it got zombies and it's kind of fun.

Even better! With urbanterror, just download it, enter a nick, optionally change controls/settings and play! It's like Soldat, but without the optional registration.

I'm not sure, but it has all sorts of mods and settings, like no/low gravity acid rain, water that does slight damage when you're submerged, and much more. With URT the possibilities are endless!
