I'm just curious which Platform people want to have Soldat running (natively) on (yeah Flash isn't a Platform

).
I hope your favorite one is in the list

It doesn't mean MM, EnEsCe or ChrisGBK will port Soldat because of this thread

but maybe it could give MM an idea what people like/use and which platforms he could (try) to code for in the future.

I chose Linux, UNIX, and Xbox. With emphasis on the Linux, but if it's ported to Linux it shouldn't take too much effort to port it to UNIX and vice versa. And if it gets ported to Linux, it might automatically work on Xbox Linux, so that eliminates the need to specifically port it to the Xbox.

well, depends on his goals. If he aims for lots of money and ppl, put in on the big ones, PS3, PSP, Wii, XBox360, etc. Easier? Gameboy, maybe. Linux, definetly first that all the others.

Yes, it would also be an interesting experience to play Soldat with a wiimote.
Btw Playstation 3 allows it to use wireless keyboard/mouse but I don't know if that also works for XBOX 360.

The red trackpoint is actually a mouse like thing (read more here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trackpoint)
I guess if the ps3 or xbox 360 have something similar soldat could be playable. It's much more challenging but whoever played egoshoorters on consoles knows that its possible to manage that.

What do you think?

Even though wiimote does work more like a mouse, it's far not as responsive. Even the xbox's gamepad is much more sensitive than wiimote.

I think we talked about this before in IRC, and I said the wii because of the remote and ease of aim, unlikes consoles using the basic controller would be hard. Mac, and linux are the next obvious choices..

I only have a PS2, so I'd go with that one. But Wii seems to be the best with the controller that it has. But I personally am fine with playing soldat on a PC.

Because Soldat is 2d oldschool platform style, I wish there was a way to do it handheld. It's possible to run Soldat on a handheld
device such as Open Pandora, but unfortunately only mouse and keyboard are best for control. I will be setting up Soldat on
an EEE PC in the future (still need a mouse and possibly a bigger keyboard).

Otherwise any other platform I could think of would be web-browser style like Quake Live. I'd find it neat if there was a Quake Live style

360 arcade would be cool, and PSP.

To make it work on 360, simply make an "auto" lock function that you press right bumper to change target and you simply just hold down right trigger to shoot, left trigger is jets and it keeps it very simple, simply move, het and hold shoot down. Good fun it would be. The auto lock basically locks on the player and you can move the target with the right stick to make sure you hit with the different weapons.

Also, weapons selection could be changed in the main menu as "Default Primary" and "Default Secondary" so you don't have to choose in-game all the time, though you press "bacK' and up comes the menu, with weapons in two columns, with semi-automatic on one side and and auto in the other (to help with speedy selection). I reckon that would work. It would keep the fast pace-ness of soldat, and maybe even ramp it up to fit consoles.

SNES would be the best! It has the same platform style of play and the graphics etc... are nearly as equal. Although most people are suggesting GNU/Linux because of their computers. This would probably or most likely increase a number of people playing the game.

I think wii would be fine, could use the nunchuck thing to move, crouch, and jump, and the bigger one to aim/fire/throw nade and such.

Of the actual gaming consoles listed, the Wii and DS are basically the only ones that could accommodate the game's aiming system. The DS wouldn't work well, either, but the Wii could actually turn out pretty nicely. If this ever happened, i have a feeling they'd find a way to allow custom map downloads... But it won't, sadly.

A lot of former Linux users prefer Mac over Linux/Windows because it has the Unixy feel that Linux people love and can run games/commerical apps (think of Steam/Adobe)

But if I were to pick one I would pick Dreamcast for the main reason being that when Soldat dies it will probably be hidden away in a dark forgotten arcade, cosying up with the neglected VR machines; and like the vast majority of current arcade machines gathering dust, the champion Dreamcast will be required to sit inside the wooden casing providing the blisteringly fast and reliable emulator.

Btw, for those who wanna see how retarded it is trying to play Soldat with IR sensor/wiiRemote, you can simulate it pretty easily using glovePIE, or by using an AIRmouse. Good luck having fun ...

PC/binary is theoretically the best way to get any program to adapt to almost any electronic device. If a game is on PC, than any electronic mod choice is available. If it is only on a specialised system, then it is limited. Not difficult logic to glean...

First you said "none", which means it should stay on Windows. Windows is a specialized system, created for PCs. Now when you're saying "PC/binary" I'm getting confused about what you mean. Making Soldat work on any PC would mean porting it to Windows, Linux and even iPad. The addition of "/binary" would in that case be obvious, since all popular PCs use a binary system in some way AFAIK.

I think porting Soldat to the most popular desktop PC systems would be the best choice. I'm not sure about the pad type computers, since Soldat at it's current state needs more controls than pads can offer currently. It might be possible however, with the addition of an on-screen controller.

PC usually means Intel's AT & x86 based machines. Though, these days PC is "a computer" for most people, even though originally it was a standard set by IBM.

The best(and actually the only, and *right*) way to make software "adapt" is to write it with portability in mind. That is, to use portable languages and libraries, and avoiding system-specific functionality.

Droid is the only platform that would save soldat, the gaming market is new, huge, and limted grahics perfect for soldat
got it kinda on droid threw remote desktopping but was about a two sec lag and the mouse wasnt happy but it kinda ish worked.
i just got a china pad for 140 that can handle ps1 emulater why can it work in the one market where it wouldnt be a niche game
all other platforms already have a grahics lead
This device supports open gl 5 point touch, if i can play golden eye n64 on this just fine i think the controls would be fine for soldat
