Stumbling after falling
« on: March 12, 2009, 10:09:43 pm »
Ok so while read the Accelerating Fall Speed. thread...I just had an idea like that... what if when you fall for "great" heights your player would like stumble, like it would take (example) 0.5 sec to start walking/running again (obviously this would occure higher than a normal because we don't want to me always stumbling) Like I said this was just an idea!...what do you think?

EDIT: yeah for realistic!

Only for realistic if it was ever implemented.

One of the things that makes soldat great is the player movement, and this would ruin it to the max.

Only for realistic, especially since falling from any real distance partially injures you (or depending on the height of the fall, it kills you.) Not a bad idea and would make the Soldat guy look more interesting/human'ish ingame.

F12 (but only for realistic.)

Maybe... but how would it be implemented? Will your Soldaten step in random directions for a second or two? Also, you already get hurt and when fall pretty much any distance without jetting in realistic. And what player doesn't jet a bit to slow down their fall anyway?

F11, dude.
Also, add a poll dude.

I don't need a reason for such a bad idea.

if you remember you have jets that you can use a while before you hit the ground to avoid that.

I would agreed on that if stumbling was only on realistic mode and it would occur when you get falling damage.
Anyways, f11'ed.

Hey, interesting idea for realistic
Definitely not in normal, that's what makes it fun

So F12 for realistic :D

It seems that falling damage is a stumble by itself though. I don't mind seeing new implementations for that in realistic. However, there is one MAJOR flaw:

People know the trick to counter falling-damage, which is to backflip just before they hit the ground, and this saves them from any damage, no matter from how high they have fallen. People can use the same trick to prevent themselves from stumbling.

I thought it'd be a lot cooler if the character automatically crouched if he fell from a long distance, then stands back up a few split seconds later. (And this could be possibly prevented by the roll?)

Only if its realistic, and if you take damage, then ill F12. Also, rolling should lower fall damage in the real mod.

I'm not certain why I even bother, but what the hey.

So based on your opinion in this matter I take it you don't play realistic all too much then? I love how there's quite a few others that are also saying things akin to "naaah, this'd suck in normal, but it'd be awesome in realistic!" as if you were trying to lump over 'experimental' ideas to a gamemode that I reckon you only play rarely.

It'd slow down the game immensely. In realistic, that'd be even more of a Bad Thing™. No.

The speed of play is what (i find) extremely fun.

And no I don't play realistic.

Maybe having him do a roll and stop when he hits the ground from high up would be o.k

I don't need a reason for such a bad idea.

Oh yes you do. That's the whole point of discussion - listening to reasons. And if you think it's bad, it's not an excuse to not give an explanation.

I think it's an alright idea, maybe even for normal mode. I doubt that it'll make much of a difference, but it'll add an extra tiny bit of detail to such common thing as movement. Depends on how you're imagining it.
Simply landing after a fall can be a whole minigame - combining a few other suggestions, you can end up with several decisions: jet before landing to slow down (which is slower but more reliable), press "crouch" in time to do a roll when you land and get back on feet (which is faster but harder to pull off), or if you fail at rolling, you stumble and for a moment become an easy target.

Don't players sometimes get a sudden drop of speed if they screw up landing?

I don't think this is neccessary.... Even rolling can just completely stops the movement if you do it wrong.
