Things I'd like to see in Soldat.

It seems to me that the community isn't very satisfied to the way Soldat is going to. This whole thing got me thinking about what would I love to see added/deleted. Pretty much "how to make Soldat near perfect without recoding, IMO version."

This is mainly an opinion of a competitive player. I don't care s**t about unofficial game modes such as climbing and TW. I also don't care much about getting new players into Soldat, since it's almost impossible nowadays because of technology getting better and better, and cheaper, too. Feel free to comment and share your own opinions!

To add or modify:

* Team mates' bullets won't bink - Make it solid. Either they cannot bink you at all or every bullet binks no matter what. The way it's currently working is too complicated and it only favours campers.

* A key for throwing the flag - Just because.

* Advantages when crouching - Faster reload, but also faster jet refueling.

* Knife trails - Nades and bullets have trails, too. An option to turn trails off in setup, just like bullets have.

* Being able to shoot the LAW while falling down - Of course only if you're proning & not using jets. Would give LAW a slight buff and fasten the game a bit.

* Add Martta's Roundabout2 to the maplist - It's something unique and a lot better than most of the new maps added.

* Shoozza & Clawbug into the dev team

* New versions more often - More bug fixes, less s**t added.

* Faster menus

* Update IceBeam (or remove)

* Downgrade Airpirates

* Old (fixed) Equinox back

* Anna's gostek viewer into player tab

* Shoozza's chatmod

* How interfaces work

* Ditch scriptcore updates, concentrate on the game itself

To remove:

* Unlim, Veoto, ctf_IceBeam, ctf_Hormone, ctf_X

* TS2 umm... thing

* Chat client

* Action snap

More to come, maybe. Discuss!

Edit, some things I forgot to mention:

* Add ctf_Coolbya3 - Also very unique and fun to play, yet still simple as every map should be.

* Remove ctf_Raspberry

* Keep Soldat simple as it is - The direction Soldat is heading right now doesn't seem right to me. Bling bling additions such as the action snap, they're just no good for Soldat. The whole topic in few words would probably be "remove the useless features, keep it simple." This is nothing personal, but in my opinion EnEsCe is doing something wrong. To make it simple, here's one of the reasons I made the whole topic:

But when I look at the current entire changelog, I think the -Added lines really overshadow the numerous bugs fixed and modifications to existing gameplay.

There is a reason why -fixed lines rule the changelog. The first thing you should do is FIXING, not adding.

It was removed in earlier versions for a reason.

I agree with bink, the current bink system sucks.


I wouldn´t care much when it was an option for players to use a key to throw the flag.  I like the old W+S system.


F11, system is good as it is right now. Faster reloading gives advantages for campers (barret, law, m79) and faster jet refueling would make superman flying even better than it is at the moment. I don´t like this idea at all.


Knives are silent operation weapons and as such need to be not as easy to see as bullets (just take the m79 bullet as an example. The bullet is so big that you can evade it easily on distance.). That is why you can´t see knives when you take them as your backup so I F11 that one.


No buff for LAW, F11. Ever saw a soldier in real life shooting a LAW in midair? Wait, wasn´t there something called recoil? Wouldn´t that cause crashed bones when the player gets boosted back and hits a wall?


I hate ctf_Roundabout2. With that looks it will be most hated map ever.


F12 for Shoozza and Clawbug :)


More bugfixes but possibility to choose how much is going to be added ... this shit you talk of is what most people in the Soldat community want like the lobby chat.

Airpirates is great, everyone loves it how it is.


I like Equinox how it is now.


F12, I guess this is highly appreciated by everybody and it makes testing much easier.


F12 to the chatmod, too, it is a very good thing.


I agreed to that interface issue already in the original thread, I F12 it here, too.

Unlim should get out, Veoto and IceBeam stay in, Hormone is very much fun and you are dumb if you don´t like X. Where is the problem with TS2? The chat shouldnt be deleted just because you don´t use it. Or anybody. Action snap may get out, I don´t see any problems with that.

Ever seen a soldier in real life use his jet boots? Wait, how can a player fire a mounted minigun while carrying it in his bare hands? How can he respawn after being killed?! Let's drop the "omg not realiztitsc" argument, yes?

I'm all for letting the LAW fire mid-air, if only to spice stuff up a bit and not force LAW users to assume a temporary camping stance - thus slowing the game down an itsy bit with it. Especially with the LAW being slightly - let's say "unreliable" - it'd be a welcome tweak in my book. Do take note that I mainly (and barely) play realistic mode, so I can't speak from much experience from normal mode. The fact you added the clause of not being allowed to use jets while firing it seems... a bit weird, but I assume it could be a solution so as to not completely go back to the 1.1.4 behaviour.

Camping isn't an issue in the first place - except in really, really terrible publics. Crouching is something that is rarely (if ever!) done in a competitive match, probably not even in the most public of servers; you just roll instead. Moving while crouching effectively makes you a sitting duck.

And how would such a change affect superman flying, again? Just, uh, how?

Keep Hormone. The rest might as well go.

Apart from what's pointed out above, I completely agree with the rest of Noble Pirate's post.

Okay, lets ignore realism. LAW usement in midair was taken out of Soldat with a purpose and I don´t want it to come back :(


I wanted to say that knives shouldn´t be easily seen because of a bullet trail.


Even in clanwars players crouch. Just take evading shots or reducing shootable area of your gostek as an example when you crouch. If you can´t slide with a knife I wouldn´t use crouching while moving, rolling is good, too.

He suggested that jet should be refueled faster when you are crouched. That means that if you superman you have more jetfuel to use or am I wrong?

^I found out that jetting makes that jet won´t refuel^

Superman implies you prone, since it deals with crouching not proning you wouldn't get a bonus.

I don't like the crouch advantages, just think it would be a waste of time to add in + crouching already has enough advantages it doesn't need to increase reload and junk.

Scriptcore is also important and shouldn't be ignored, many helpful things that make running a server easier have been made because of the scriptcore and some pretty handy features have been added to make it better.

The knife thing is fairly useless but has some additions to modding so I'll support it..

F11 to the law in midair as well, just never liked being able to shoot it midair and many people still use it effectively even if they do have to crouch to use it.

Coding a game is not simple and it isn't something you can just churn out updates for, also having to download a new soldat every month or so just to fix a couple of bugs would get annoying.

Don't really care about all the other stuff so I'll leave that out..
And as the lyrics go in the United State's national anthem: "America, f**k YEAH!".

You know, the funny thing is... people believe there are ways of making Soldat better, but it turns out... not really.

MM did an awesome job creating this game, absolutely. But what really makes it... well perfect, is that you can easily mod it.

Want to change the weapons? Have at it! Change the gfx? Easy! Sfx? easy to modify. Maps? Make your own, or if you have a particular problem with one, modify it!

Soldat's secret ingredient is how easy (and fun) it is to mod it. Many games I consider kick-@$$ great, but always wish I could tweak them a little, like soldat.

Autoupdate feature will do the work for you. It was once implemented. Dunno if it's still there.

That is no autoupdate. An updater would cause that you need to install the next update before you are able to play Soldat. It would make Soldat slower and I don´t like things like that. Just by the way: It is no updater but a link to www.soldat.pl/downloads where you should download then the newest Soldat version.

1) That can work.

2) Actually, looking back at that suggestion, it's not a bad idea. I wouldn't mind supporting it if this can be made as an option.

3) No comment since this is personal preference, but I'd like to add on and say that the turning on/off of bullet trails should be made to such that you can choose to turn on/off the bullet trails of select weapons, not ALL of the weapons.

4) In a very old version of Soldat, it used to be possible to fire the LAW while proning in mid-air. It turned out to be overpowered. The LAW should always remain only usable on the ground, the agreed buffs to the LAW would include lowering startup time and the time to reload the weapon, nothing more.

Yes totally agreed with this. Im currently using 1.4.2 as my modding(and playing) platform and it pains me to see that irritating pop-up for every time im doing a mod.

On topic-

I agree with everything above, especially Anna's gostek viewer integrated into the player tab. It makes gostek modding so much easier instead of having to run the game every single time. Yes i know that already you could use the gostek viewer outside of the program, but it's quite trouble some if you wanted to view a particular gostek of a particular mod.

crouching and proneing increases the aim for mp5 (due to the fireinterval bug). therefor it's very effective to prone mid-air and sometimes taking a short time to crouch.

So you want to reduce the "adding of new features" yet you want trails for a knife throw? And a gostek viewer? You're contradicting yourself...
Also, f11 as to the LAW, I already see it as a very strong last resort weapon, making it fire in the air will probably favor it over autos and 1 hitters in mid air.

All I want to see is the Realistic version of the 'rett being used as the Normal version. I despise the longer delay before the 'rett shoots. Makes it harder to kill people without being sprayed to death!
