I purchased this game today. Now the thing is: I gather resources, build myself a nice home, dig deep into the ground to search for minerals and shit... I dig... I dig... And then I suddenly find myself in lava. I'm burning, losing health points and then I die.

Fortunately I spawn again but what's the point? I'm in some shitty place, I don't know where my home is and I've lost all my valuable stuff.

Ya guys have any idea how can I find the home? A map that shows me the entire world or something?

Cartograph. Download it through the minecraft wikia. Select the world with your house in it, use normal world view, and generate the whole thing. It should appear as a .png in the same folder your Cartograph is located in.

So if you know what your home looks like and you can figure out where your spawnpoint is located on the map, then it's just a matter of finding your way back home.

Btw, you always respawn in the same place you started your world in every time you die.

Yes, I've tried that add-on but for some reasons, when I click on it it doesn't open. I have no idea why.

I do know what my home looks like but it's in a cliff, only two holes made for entrance. It's pretty hard to find it but I can remember the terrain close to it.

The place where I spawn is damn shit. Nothing else than sand and water. No trees in thousands of kilometers. So I wander around the map until if find a good place.

NB: This time I built my home close to spawn point. I hope I won't get lost this time.

yeah just generate a new world.. And if you spawn in a shit place, delete the world and generate a new one, imo. That'll save you a lot of nerves. I also mark the spawnpoint right in the beginning - just dig out a couple of blocks next to you and make a 2-3 block high tower to mark your spawn location. Then you can build some shelter around it so you don't get raped after respawning =P

Today, I made a tunnel from the spawn point to my home. I built it like an hour lol. But now it's safe to get back to home whenever I die.

I also made a very long pole with fire-sticks on top so I could find my home with no problem at all. Pretty clever huh ^^ :D

Haha, yeah. Always build close to your spawn point.

The first world I ever generated upon playing Minecraft for the first time spawned me on the other side of a frozen pond from a mountain peak of both water and lava springs. O:

This is a dynamic map of the server I've been playing on for the past few days. If you scroll down and to the left slightly, you'll see a giant lava javelin sticking out of the earth and a warp zone (yellow circle) titled "copernicus." My friends and I are responsible for basically all of that mess around there.

You can hit f3 to see your coordinates in-game too.  Anyways, I have a dedicated Minecraft server that I just put online yesterday.  It's a 100-slot vanilla SMP server.

Here's a post I made on MCF about it-
http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=1025&t=126436

Ya'll are free to play.  There's not really any userbase right now, but hopefully folks will start dropping by.

Awsum, I'll be joining there soon. You should consider adding some anti-griefing scripts though.

Wow, I might join that too if I get time and internet resources.

Anyway. I started building a mob spawn tower... Holy shit that takes a lot of time and resources. I hope it pays off.

I want to built a mob spawn tower because I need 143 blocks of TNT to blow shit up I dug yesterday. (I might throw some screens soon)

143 blocks of TNT means that I need 715 items of sulfur and 572 items of sand.
It's easy to obtain sand but getting 715 items of sulfur takes a lot of time since you only get it from creepers.

Alright, it's time to sleep. I've been playing Minecraft for 7 hours straight. lol

Generally I don't mind the destruction of other people's creations, so long as there is a reason to it -- plundering resources, or destroying the base of someone who decided to settle a little too near.  Blatant griefing is extremely frustrating though, so I might find a way to limit the destructive power of fire and lava, but I'm waiting for Bukkit to come out and replace hMod before I get too invested in finding the perfect pairings of plugins.

As for the server, it's still a bit desolate now, although there were a few people online building things earlier today.  I haven't been able to play Minecraft 'cos I'm stuck on a netbook for as long as I'm on vacation, but I'll breathe some life into the server when I get back home.

that's why you usually have more than one person working on it... Seen a sick one in action, it makes 2k+ items an hour. It's massive though.

It's not the building that takes so much time... It's gathering resources. Today I was 3 hours underground, mining for cobble stone.

wow. :S I only know how to make a single spawner trap.

@n00bface: played on your server yesterday, build a base, done stuff, then left. I returned just now to check back on things and it seems that the world's changes are all reset. :/ Is that a bug or you did that intentionally?

My tower has 3 parts, each part has 10 spawning rooms. I have no idea how am I going to make that work.

Progress so far:

(As you can see this thing actually works. I just need to make em die)

n00bface: unfortunately I haven't had time to hop in your server... I've been busy building this pile of shit :D
