You can hit f3 to see your coordinates in-game too.  Anyways, I have a dedicated Minecraft server that I just put online yesterday.  It's a 100-slot vanilla SMP server.

Here's a post I made on MCF about it-
http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=1025&t=126436

Ya'll are free to play.  There's not really any userbase right now, but hopefully folks will start dropping by.

Nice. I'll pop in and make a few UFOs or something with the username "golevka"

Where's your server located at? When I joined it seemed damn laggy.

Minecraft is one of those games I feel bad pirating. :(

Need to buy it so I can play the alpha online.

wow. :S I only know how to make a single spawner trap.

@n00bface: played on your server yesterday, build a base, done stuff, then left. I returned just now to check back on things and it seems that the world's changes are all reset. :/ Is that a bug or you did that intentionally?
Nah, it wasn't intentional.  This is the first I've heard of it, but like I said in the topic I linked to, I haven't had a chance to play on my own server yet.  It's been online and, according to McMyAdmin, running steadily, but it's something I'll have to investigate when I get home in a couple of days.  I'm sorry about that though, 'cos losing minecraft work is one of the most frustrating feelings in the world.

The server is located in the SingleHop datacenter in Chicago.  I'm not sure exactly the extent of the lag you experienced, but the nature of Minecraft SMP is such that all servers experience pretty copious amounts of lag.  Currently my server would rank 4th with regards to its hardware according to the statistics of the top (25+ active players 24/7) servers on the Minecraft server list.  I can't speak to its connection (it's a dedicated 1Gbit line, but I have no personal experience with the connection yet), but its RAM is more than enough to host a couple hundred players, let alone the few who have stumbled upon it so far.  The mod that I'm currently running, hMod (hey0's mod), only makes use of one processor thread though, whereas I have 8 cores to work with.  Thankfully a new mod, Bukkit, is being released soon, which will allow for multithreaded plugins and, by the consensus so far, should completely replace hMod.

I have same hole, except wider... I need resources for my mob tower...

Anyway, why do you have the Alpha version? Isn't the Beta 1.1_02 the latest?

That wasn't such a big deal since I wasn't able to build all that much. Messed around there yesterday one more time, came back today and it was reset again. :S So yeah, you might wanna fix that ASAP.

Also, I haven't experienced much lag (I'm in Winnipeg, Canada). In fact, it's much better now than it used to be a few versions ago. There was one time when blocks were lagging quite a bit, but it only happened once, so might be just a random lag spike.

Yeah. Beta 1.1_02 is the latest version ATM. Sorry to say that, chutem, but you've missed out on an awesome opportunity of getting the game for cheaper price and ensuring that all future updates will be free for you. :/

Purchase now!
When Minecraft is finished, it will sell for €20.00.
If you pre-purchase now during beta, you pay just €14.95!

Please note that when you buy the game, you're paying for the game as it is right now!
You will also get the full version of Minecraft when it is released. Read the copyright information for more information on your purchase.

This pretty much means the all versions...? No?

Yeah, thats what I was referring to.

Dunno, but this is what's been posted on notch's blog:

We will also change the license to remove the line that promises all future versions of the game for free. Please note that this change only affects people who buy the game after December 20, so if you got the game for during alpha, you will still get all future updates for free, despite this change. A promise is a promise.
Buying the game during beta will include all updates up until release, of course, and bug patches will be free.

What the hell, damn money greedy b*****ds!

Anyway, I pretty much finished building my 30 room spawning tower. So I started doing some plumbing work and I encountered a huge problem.

The screenshot will describe it the best.

remove the spaces in the word "bull s h i t" :S Too lazy to re-upload.

What you think? What is the best solution?

lol apparently the 'restart server' command that's bundled with McMyAdmin by default completely erases the world when it should only restart the server process.  I'd restore to one of my hundreds of backups, but because of my daily restarts, nothing of value will be restored.  Anyways, I think I fixed it.  I'm having the server restart daily at 4:00 server time, right after creating a backup that should be reloaded onto the server once it comes back online.

anyways, I am writing my own Minecraft server administration software now that should hopefully work a bit better with CentOS servers than McMyAdmin, and I may even be the first to bundle a web administration interface with Bukkit!

It can't be higher than the original game price because otherwise people wouldn't buy.

Well seeing as the always free updates are no longer being sold, the old accounts become way more valuable than the new accounts, which do not include always-free-updates. People will take advantage of this.

n00bface. I joined your server today, built a nice home. It should be right close to your spawn. I hope it still stays there.

Ya can make it bigger or something but please don't completely destroy it :D And don't let creepers in because I almost blew the whole thing up <.<

Server lagged like hell when I joined, maybe because it was still downloading a map. But overall it was playable.

I think you might be experiencing FPS lag from the world rendering, as the map hasn't been expanded much yet.  I was in the server last night with a few others and we put on a temp map to test the server's limits.  Used cuboid to load an entire cave with TNT and there weren't any problems until we used /cfill to make over 25,000 blocks of the stuff.

From: January 11, 2011, 03:24:04 am
lol, so when I said it would be the last rollback, I was about an hour off.  Turns out the root of my problems was a too-recent release of the Mono runtime, which powers the server-side modifications.  It was having problems writing to the disk and would give an IOError after so many saves, which would eventually break its ability to save at all.  I downgraded to 2.6.7 from 2.8.1 and everything's running perfectly.  This time I managed to test it for a few hours, so I know for a fact that the problem is solved.  My world backups are also writing to the disk uncorrupted now, whereas I was having this problem earlier and figured it was just an issue with Notch's server program.  So, I'm sorry that you probably lost some more progress, but I really don't think it will happen again in the future.

Also, I kept a whitelist on the server while I was testing everything, so I'm sorry if anyone got turned away :O

n00bface, the map has lots of holes in it, all the way to the bottom. Know what that is?

Cool spawn area btw :)
