Quick tactical help ???
« on: November 08, 2009, 04:24:26 pm »
So, I have found that in a 1 on 1 battle with pretty much nyone i can hold my own but i have a really hard time when falling with getting damage on my opponent and killing them. Is there a trick to this? My favorite weapons are shotguns because i love jumping into a huge battle and picking off three or so enemys before stoping to reload and pick up some grenades. Please help me out here. Maby tell me what your favorite guns are to use in which situations? I have tried them all and the Spas 12 and the Desert Eagles seem to be what i am best with.

You need to aim up and be close enough to the person for your bullets to actually hit them. And try throwing grenades at the bottom of a player on top of them; they'll explode and fly high.

You really think so? I like to be in close for my 1vs 1. Just far enough away to be able to use grenades to my strength. And those seem to be the most reliable weapons for it. Should i work with SMGs and see if that helps? Whats better for 1 on 1 in your opinion? And thanks jrgp. I will try that.

Shotguns ARE made for 1v1 in CLOSE quarters, long range, and its a whole different story.

As a barret user, I tend to camp behind sceneries and focus on a high threat target. And if exposed, i would move quickly and try to get as far away from the target.

Back to topic-
-In group battles, always move about, even if it means running towards your opponent(s) to confuse them.
-Try to flank them in terms with attacks from above, below and behind.
-Outwit them by doing alot kick/boost jumps. A good way to chain your jumps from one poly to another is to roll after each jump, so that the enemy chasing you won't have a good chance of hitting you.
- In technical, small maps like tropiccave- lots of smooth edges, take advantage of these by staying low on the ground (again) try to chain all of your moves, so that you would flow with the map. Mastering this, can get you out of VERY sticky situations while maintaining the same speed and agility.

Thanks for all the advise. I do appreciate it. My problem is that i like to play maps like "airpirate" or whatever it is and I find myself surrounded by a bunch of guys all alone. Because i am using my arrow keys to move and the up arrow to fly... Maby i should try something else because honestly i dont do much jumping. I have been trying to get better withy flowing with the map. I find its a lot faster. Mostly in ctf maps. Once you get that flag and you need to get the heck out of there ya know? Thanks again for all the input. I will work on that. I just have a hard time htting my target on the run. Should i be using sniper line? It almost hurts more then it helps me.  :P

A sniper line works for me, since i use the barret most of the time.

But since your having difficulty aiming while on the move, i would suggest going simple by using the mp5- Great spray, fast reload. once you've done mastering the aiming, you could upgrade to slower but more powerful weapons. M79, is great for 'bombing' runs.

And if you ever get to this point..

Barret is great for long distance slow moving targets, but also works in  close range. medium range is best kept for your side arm, or some other weapon you've grabbed. Be warned though, using the barret can be difficult, so its best to move while shooting. At most, stay still for a second or two to get a good bead on your target, before moving again to reload. Back flips and super-man techniques also works great for strike runs.

I've also done some experiments with 'quick reflex' shots. where your enemy is about 45~70 degress above you, you can just do a flick with your mouse while holding the fire button down. this only works if your exprierienced enough with the barret

Ok, Call me stupid but I think I found one of my problems. My cross hairs are from a mod that are green and are really really hard to see on most greenery covered maps. I changed it full black and I think my next color change will be something bright. Yellow or pink. Just having changed that I get more shots on target and get a good 6-10 more kills per deathmatch. What cross hairs are you guys using? I am going to find a setup I like and change it to a really really bright color.

Use one like what I have, might be helpful when it comes to the colour. It's white with red in the middle. I attached it in this post. If you want to use my personal crosshair, make a backup of your original crosshair before replacing it. See if it works for you.

I don't recommend sniper line. Learn to judge your bullet curve rather than use the sniper line as a guide, even if you are using a Barrett. Besides, the crosshair in sniperline is barely visible and the line isn't very helpful, it's kinda misleading.

I'm personally a Ruger-user by the way.

I use the default soldat cursor, its reliable in dark maps, but it almost disappears in bright maps. I would recommend using a cursor combining both bright/dark colours so you can distinguish them in any map.

I use the sniper line to do rough estimates for targets over long distances, also, trying even to aim with the crosshair in sniper line mode is just pointless. you'd might as well aim the line at the target- saves you the trouble of having to strain your eyes looking for the cursor.

IMO, using the sniper line is not a real need, if your doing your fighting mostly withing medium~close range. But it does help if you want precision down to the very body part of your enemy.

I used to use sniper line myself, and I somewhat agree. I admit it did help me aim better. However, there are servers which disable sniper line, and in those servers, I found myself at a severe disadvantage because I got so used to the sniper line, I couldn't even aim without it. I focused so much on the line that I didn't know how to estimate my bullets' curve without the line. That's one.

Other than that I'd say sniper line is more like a personal preference. Competitive players avoid the sniper line though.

Ouch! :|
Why in hell you do such thing? Use standard right mouse button...

Maby i should try something else because honestly i dont do much jumping.
Wrong! You definitely NEED to jump to
get better withy flowing with the map.
THIS is what actually makes you
a lot faster.

And:
Should i be using sniper line?
NO! You'll get into deep problems after disabling it...and its just lame.

yes, you want your movement keys at wasd, and then having your other keys somewhere around there, jumping is very important for speed.

also, for 1v1 you need something that kills fast and is easy, like barrett, M79, ruger, minimi and steyr.

Hum, i think you play DM or TM right? So i cant help you on this way.

But, if you play CTF and use Spas, boost yourself half the clip by the alt route. Dont bother going on main, focus on 1x1 nade+shot = dead, grab the flag and boost yourself again. Thats the major way to win with Spas12.
My favorite weapon is the barret, but since the guy created delay and ricos, i found myself getting boring playing with that, so fuking easy to own ppl.
My most hated weapon is the new versions deagle, harder to master and even mastering it, harder to own ppl with then. Cuz that i play mostly deagles the last 3 years, cuz i never get boring with them. Never use sniper-line, on "serious" games its disable for sure. Well, if you dont do many flag-throws and cannon-balls, set granade on W.

Make sure you play realistic mode, that own. Normal is for arcade players ;p

The biggest advice ever in this game is learning the backflip. Learn to love the backflip.

Backflip - Jump backwards and press the fly button
[/quote]That doesn't fully explain how to do it.

You face one direction, and then press the key that makes you go in the opposite direction and jump at the same time, and then, while still holding these keys, you fire your jets, and your dude will somersault in the air. :D

e.g. Facing right, press and hold A+W, then press Right Click.
