Shivering moments
« on: November 13, 2009, 06:35:14 pm »
Ever saw a scene from a movie/animation that looks and sounds so powerful that it makes you shiver?
Not just explosions or a generic gunshooting scene, but something that really takes your breath away, something that makes you hold on to something as if you might bet blown away at any moment.
-----------
If you know a scene like that - post links here, along with description what that is and where it is from.

Here's a video which inspired me to create this thread:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qvU07pPcNs0
This is an edited scene (unfortunately it's a lot shorter than the original) from anime called "Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone", a modern rebuild of classic anime series "Neon Genesis Evangelion".

Probably the first appearance of Soundwave on Transformers 2, he's really cool and for some reason that moment was a massive highlight in the movie for me.

well that's the original cartoon... I wont spoil the actual movie version because its really awesome :D

Oh, my bad. I'm not really into transformers (shame to admit, but I never even seen any of the movies), so the pic confused me. :S
But even the trailers looked very impressive.

I can think of three moments, coincidentally they all involve space ships.

I suggest you buy the DVDs (or blu ray :P) and watch them, they have amazing visual effects and sound and lots of stuff to enjoy even if you weren't a fan of the previous transformers cartoons and stuff.

I guarantee you'll be blown away the first time you see a transformation.  They are amazing and beautifully animated.  DVD bonus features are awesome as well if you watch that kind of thing.

It happens every time I watch Rebuild of Evangelion.  I mean, heck, in the second movie, I've watched this particular scene at least a dozen times, and despite that and despite it being a lousy camrip, it's simply breathtaking compared to the original.

Only anime shows I've felt any interest in over the years are Pokemon (original TV series) and various hentai.
so clearly jgrp is a goddamn anime connoisseur. his opinion might as well be law here.

I approve! That series was so good. I can't wait for the upcoming one. They play'em on tv quite often here, like at least once every 2 months. I have the whole series on DVD, but I still can't help but watch it whenever it's on.

I jizzed just a little watching Terminator Salvation when that door opens, and you see a massive silhouette coming out from the steaming room, and you just know the govenator has been activated.
I fucking miss all you cunts!

Battlestar Galactica: Exodus part 2. Pretty much the whole episode is one of the greatest scifi fights I've ever seen.

Plenty of times in soldat involving some epic music combined with a dramatic shot and the last kill in DM.

I actually just had one about 4 minutes ago. f**k yeah I pwned so hard. : 3

As for shows, I'd say the Gundam 00 when the giant orbital tower blew up and everyone was blowing up the falling bits to protect the city just below. Badass action I must say.

Damn that looks epic. D: Is 2.0 even released yet?
Tried finding a better quality of that, but only found the version from original series: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qA_OH_P8gp0
Looks much less epic. :(

Also, while searching for that scene I stumbled upon this:

This just isn't right. What are those versuses anyway?
upd: Looks like some kind of special features lottery machine..

DOHOHOHOHO

But any moment that made me stop and go fuck yeah or go shit no? Lt. Spears running through Foy like a badass in BOB. Shit no was End of Eva and Asuka getting raped.

Oh wow, how could I have forgotten Elfen Lied? There were quite a few scenes in it that were pretty shocking in either their graphic nature or explicitness, and it really hits you because, for example, when a bunch of people are about to get massacred, you know it's going to happen and you just have to sit there and wait for it.  Or when they're revealing Kohta's life as a kid, gaps get filled in so quickly that you just kind of have to stare and take it in.  I'll have to watch it again to be sure, but I think Elfen Lied is up there in my list of favorite animes because of moments like that.

Damn that looks epic. D: Is 2.0 even released yet?

It's been released theatrically in Japan, but probably won't be on a DVD for a couple of months.  However, that camrip leaked about three months ago and has since been fansubbed; I'm sure you can find it if you look hard enough.

Heh, it looks like they just took stereotypical parts of ancient Japanese culture and made them look flashy; I almost laughed when a bunch of soldiers wearing ricers burst out of the pavement.  Even so, there's no denying that it looks pretty darn sweet.
