Mappers, beware
« on: November 27, 2009, 09:45:54 pm »
As of version 1.5.1.9 Soldat has an option to disable all background sceneries.

This has caused some important sceneries (like colliders and wooden bridges Snakebite remake) to become invisible if BG sceneries are disabled. I think this should be mentioned somewhere in the stickies, so that mappers keep that in mind. Default maps will also need to be updated so that all important sceneries are set to "middle" or "front" and are always visible.

P.S. I'm sorry if this is the wrong section, but I'm not sure where else this should've been posted.

Interesting :P
For signatures, you are allowed only one image in your signature which may not be wider and taller than 300 and 125 pixels, and may not be over 20kB in file size. No BMPs are allowed.

Another brilliant idea... why not an option to disable everything?

If disabling background scenery why not have a mode where you can see which polygons are of which type and where spawns and colliders are set?

Background sceneries play almost no role in gameplay.
I think it's a great feature for those who have FPS issues, as well as for those who just want to keep things simple.

I don't understand why some of you complain. If you want to play with sceneries... Don't disable them. It's that simple.

biohazard
Yeah, but since only a few people use bugtracker, I decided to mention here as well because it's pretty important. Disabling BG sceneries will be useless if it disables important elements as well.

If disabling background scenery why not have a mode where you can see which polygons are of which type and where spawns and colliders are set?
Disabling BG sceneries was added mainly to improve FPS for some people.
Highlighting colliders and polygon types and showing spawns sounds like whole different issue. Red dots as colliders and spawn icons would look strange in maps.

Yeah this option is made to give another efficient tool to fix fps. Also I'm sure that competitive world will use it for less distraction.

BioHazard, that's not coding bug, it's mapping related. We'll modify all default maps so that every "only player collide" and collider scenery will be seen clearly.

You won't be able to change textures in future. If you mean that players change textures/polygons black (you'll get wrong map version), not sure if it's already working but at 1.5.1.7 it was bugging.

That is absolutly awesome, i am just using black textures to try to fix the fps, lowering the CPU usage, dunno if it rly works... I really hate cellshaded/blacktextures cuz the tearing of vsync-off.

actually that snakebite issue is already addressed. and other then that we were already aware of the problem and have been working to fix it on the default maps.

That´s very ignorant. Not everyone has the money to buy a new pc just for the purpose to play Soldat without FPS issues.

GET BETTER PC*S

Yep, since maybe 90% of the players reason to start playing this game was because they had crappy computers or in my case at the time, dial-up.

And you know why there isn't as much people anymore?
Because of the rapid growth of technology, people are getting better end computers and in turn get better games.

You wanna know another reason?
For the people who can't afford good comps, they dled this game for its simplicity and now its getting raped by all these soldat portals and crazy maps that people can't play in because their FPS is under 30.

Basically what I'm trying to say is,
That's ignorant as fluck.

In topic: Nice to see a decent option added to soldat for a change.

Better FPS and less distraction from playing the game + now when mapper realize that many ppl won't see their "awesome bg sceneries" they will probably focus more on gameplay (I will for sure).

Mappers, don't get any ideas from this:
Lets just hope that nobody puts loads of annoying scenery in middle/front. ;)
...PC vs Mac is like AK47 vs M4A1...
<DutchFlame`> i once heard running runescape in the background gave you a speedboost
<Mr> yes, it allocates more electrons, so there are more electrons available for Soldat -> they are streched less and it is more fluent
