So is WarRock a MMOPRG? It´s a 3D-Shooter with about 100 different ranks but you don´t get better stats for raising in rank. Is Battlefield 2 a MMORPG?

No, no, no! Steam is a piece of bloated /shit/. I, for one, do NOT want Soldat to take 2 minutes to load or change maps! I don't want to lose 25% of my framerate!* I don't want to have to connect to the internet just to play a singleplayer game! I don't want to miss out on playing Soldat just because Steam released yet another bug-ridden "update"!

*This isn't speculation, but rather, is based on my observations of running HL2 on Steam versus on a Steam emulator.

They mean having it integrated, in that you can buy Soldat registrations and actually download/install Soldat with Steam, as you can with Half-Life and others. Not just adding it to your installed games list.

You don't lose anything..you can easily join friends this way, even though you can do it with Xfire but with Steam it would be much better. Maybe it's your computer or something? Oh and there's like a update once a week, wow missing 5 minutes of Soldat what am I do to? P.S Did you forget that the lobby sometimes is down too? Or your favorite server..

Also you can play SP games with the "play offline button" when you don't have internet.

No, Steam really is bloated.

I have Half-Life 2 Collector's Edition. Has HL2, HL-Source, and CS-Source. But I haven't played them in years for this simple reason: it takes hours to install steam and the game itself, then trying to find my login and pass that I've long forgotten, then download updates for Steam, and then spend more and more long hours downloading UPDATES for each of the installed games and then VERIFYING each one of them before I can actually play.

Also, like I said: I want to manage my games myself, not using some launcher with a weird way of storing game files which aren't as easy to mod because of a weird folder structure.
I also don't want to have some useless (for me) program opened, take up space in my tray (which is already full with crap) and use my computer's precious resources (which are already very limited) only so I can launch two or three games from it.

5 minutes can be a lot, depending on a situation. If you want to play one-two deathmatch rounds at school before class starts - you won't be able to do that with steam. Not only because steam is so bloated, but simply because you probably won't even be able to install it on school computer, while Soldat is very portable and you can easily carry it around on a USB stick.

As for "play offline" - you can already do that in Soldat. And unlike Steam, you don't need to switch anything to some offline mode, you just start a game with bots and that's it.

Ah, pussies. Get a 10mbit connection and a beast of a computer and you'll hardly notice Steam being there. Oh, wait, maybe that's why you're all still playing Soldat. Nevermind... :P

Nah, Soldat shouldn't go with Steam, it just isn't going to end up well. Soldat has BE, which would reject the Steam Overlay (although the necessity of having the overlay in Soldat is questionable).

I'd also speculate that a lot of people playing Soldat don't happen to have machines good enough to run the games that Steam provides (or Steam full stop) well, or can't afford any games off Steam, so that's why they're playing this (mostly) free 2D shooter instead.

As someone mentioned, Steam's need for you to authenticate your account before you can play any games would probably kill Soldat's portability (no more playing it at school behind a firewall, for example), and since it's a freeware game, the authentication isn't needed at all if you wish to play offline with bots, or in a LAN game.

I personally like Steam, but I'd hate to see Steam and Soldat merged.

I agree 100% here. I've never had a problem with Steam, and I find it extremely convenient to want to install half life 2 and not have to go scrounging around to find the install dvd.

Honestly, I wouldn't care either way if Soldat was integrated in.
