That's what I thought at first too, but then I reread the post...
He's suggesting that you see enemy's laser points. :|

I imagine it to work like a Rocket Launcher in Half-Life. Sometimes it's fun when you hunt down your enemy by watching his laser point flying around the map. Even more fun is to use the laser point to distract the enemies from your teammates. But that would only be fun in realistic mode where you wouldn't be able to see the enemy himself.

So if that's what he's suggesting - then it wouldn't be that bad of an idea. In fact, it could be fun if implemented properly and only for certain weapons. This would make them more fun to use. It would also add some new possibilities to scripting, like executing a script where the laser pointer is pointing.

there is improved Soldat its called version 1.3.1 you can make weapon-gfx as long as you want so you can add laser pointers and see campers from 2 screens away ok
CRYSO | HLT

    CRY0 | NAN0 2.1 | 0MEN 1.0 | PYR0 1.1M | B0RG 1.0

But then the
1) laser pointer would be fixed distance from weapon
2) would be visible through walls
3) would not be visible if you don't see the enemy.
4) it would only work for you, but not for others
Which ruins pretty much everything that would make laser pointer fun.

Ask me, it ruins the purpose of sceneries.
They were put there for hiding, AKA camping.
This reveals campers indiscriminately.

Not if you only see the point itself, but not the laser line. Point would make it easier to see that there's a camper somewhere in the area, but won't reveal his exact position, which I think is a good anti-camper measure that is not too strict.

I know, I know, real life lasers work the same way, you do only see the point unless there's dust or something in the air that'll show the line, but nonetheless it ruins the purpose of sceneries and makes a tough choice of a tactic even tougher.
@Halo fan: What if it's a complete newb who actually can't hit without it? (As if it ever did help with aim...You get the point).

I think he means that it doesn't make camping that much harder, and I somewhat agree. Like I said, it doesn't pinpoint the exact location of a camper.

Getting this right puts strain on netcode and people's internet connections (because sampling of the direction each person is facing will have to be done more often), and ultimately is not worth it for an anesthetic feature which doesn't improve gameplay at all.
